Bad Eggs: The Biden Administration’s Politicization of Easter

Reflecting on Holy Week and Easter Sunday,

Americans saw the canceling of religious symbols, the dilution of sacred observances, and the general politicization of Easter on behalf of the Biden administration. The clash between the religious freedom of Christians, faux societal inclusivity, and the opportunity to infuse a political agenda into a religious holiday rear its ugly head again.

Controversy began when the Biden administration banned children from submitting Easter eggs with religious themes for its 2024 “Celebrating National Guard Families” art contest. The competition, which is part of the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll, explicitly stated in a flyerthat egg designs must not feature any “religious symbols,” even though the egg itself is a symbol of the Resurrection. This decision is an obvious attempt on behalf of the Biden White House to strip Easter of its religious connotation.

In addition to religiously-neutral Easter eggs, President Biden's proclamation of March 31 as Trans Visibility Day, overlapping with this year’s Easter Sunday, added insult to injury. This further reflects a disregard for the deeply held beliefs of a significant portion of the population. In the United States, it is estimated that 210 million people, about 63% of the population, identify as Christians. On the other hand, it is estimated that onlyabout .5% of thepopulation identify as transgender. So why steamroll over the Christian majority to accommodate such a small minority? The answer: to make the political point that the progressive agenda comes first. Biden himself professes to be a devout Catholic, making his decision to overshadow Easter all the more confusing.

The virtue signaling does not end on Easter Sunday, it continues through to the White House Easter Egg Roll on Easter Monday. The White House announced the full program of activities and guests for the event and on the surface, it looks educational and family-friendly, but a further look reveals the same progressive agenda we see time and time again.

The list of those in attendance includes Andrea Beaty, a children’s book author who has been repeatedly praised by the LGBTQ+ community for her inclusion of controversial content in her books. For example, in her book, “Aaron Slater and the Sneaky Snake,” the reader is introduced to the main character’s two moms. An LGBTQ Parent’s blog cited the book as having other progressivethemes including “incidental queerness, Lesbian/queer woman/mom(s)Social justice.” Also in attendance is children’s book author, Brad Meltzer, whose book, “I am Billie Jean King,” was up for banning due to its LGBTQ content.

The controversial attendees do not end there. The list also includes Sesame Street, which posted a “Progress Pride Flag”  last year on Twitter, quoting that the flag represents “inclusion, belonging, and freedom of authentic self-expression.” Former Sesame Street actor, Sonia Manzano, will be in attendance and recently came out with her own kid’s show, “Almas Way.” In a Huffington Post UK article, she described the purpose the show fills, “As we see more and more banning of books and lesson plans… perhaps a show like “Alma’s Way” can plant the seeds of tolerance in preschoolers.”

Barring children from drawing religious symbols, putting Easter Sunday on the backburner to satisfy a vocal minority, and hijacking the family-centered White House tradition of the Egg Roll is not a true reflection of the Easter celebrated by many Americans. To diluteEaster is to disregard millions who hold it dear and to host an event marketed toward educating children andfor family togetherness only for it to hold underscores of a progressive agenda is not only inappropriate but also insulting.

Regardless of Biden’s actions, Easter symbolizes hope, redemption, and the promise of new life. But this trend raises broader concerns about the erosion of religious freedom, traditional values, and theprogressive grooming of children in our society, issueswe cannot ignore.
