The Bloodbath Lie Failed Spectacularly

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

The liberal media must be getting nervous. All their tricks aren’t working. Joe Biden remains in the toilet in the approval ratings despite their best attempts to make the former president seem insane. It indicates the lack of credibility the news industry has with the public. Half of the country rightly thinks the news media is corrupt and pro-Democrat. The other half nods and agrees but realizes they’re consuming biased news. It’s also a herculean task to make Biden not look half-dead or dementia-ridden, and robust. He’s a mentally degraded old man who can’t remember when his son died. The media says, “Don’t believe your lying eyes.” Too late. And that’s what happened in Ohio this month.

Donald Trump visited the Buckeye State before the state’s March 19 primary. He was doing a solid for Bernie Moreno, who handily won the Republican nomination for the US Senate, winning all 88 counties. The former president did speak about the economic horrors that were to come with a second Biden term, including a bloodbath for the auto industry regarding China. The media took that and tried to weaponize it as a call for political violence; even Google altered its search results.

The problem for the media in selling this lie is that a video and a transcript blow up the narrative since the former president is seen explicitly talking about trade and domestic policy. It’s why, within 36 hours, this media blitz petered out. It became another sore spot for an industry already laughed at for serial fake news production concerning the Russian collusion hoax and the Hunter Biden laptop.

If this was a test run for the media character assassination campaign against Trump that will be an ongoing operation this cycle, it failed miserably. This one exploded on the launching pad like a North Korean missile test. The efficacy of the liberal media has degraded immensely since half the country simply ignores their pleas, tantrums, and whining about the 2024 Republican nominee. We don’t care. The irony is that the Democratic Party and liberal activist judges, like the one overseeing Trump’s civil fraud case in New York, are doing actual damage to the rule of law and the US Constitution. Trump is running for president; there’s nothing illegal about that. Seizing someone's assets because they’re a political rival is entirely different.

It should shake us all to our core that we have a political party, a cadre of judges, and a media establishment that endorses this behavior. Michael Shellenberger and Alex Gutentag, two independent reporters, wrote about the narcissism and psychopathy that appears to be at the heart of the push to seize Trump’s financial assets. When those two things begin to dominate the intellectual institutions of a nation, totalitarian tendencies emerge and spread like a virus.

The media should understand by now that they’re not special—they’re not first responders, and no one sees them as pillars that keep the government in check. If anything, they’re operatives of the Democratic Party, unprincipled and amoral to the nth degree with no redeeming qualities. They’re political whores.

As of now, I consider them more of an annoyance. What concerns me more is what they report concerning Trump’s legal issues since each case erodes constitutional order more than any little riot on January 6 ever could.
