Democrats are nervous, excited, concerned, confident, depending on the day and time. When it comes to getting into the wallets of dumb people, there is nothing they won’t do.
After the off-year elections this year, the Democrat machine didn’t skip a beat – they’re right back to begging for money and trying some of the dumbest tactics to do it.
“Your gift TRIPLED!” read the subject line of an email from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. How? They never say.
They can’t say because it’s a lie.
The DSCC knows it’s a lie, so they only make a quick “Donate by midnight to triple your impact” mention without explanation. Does the DSCC own a secret unicorn who eats dollar bills and poops out three more of them? That would be nice; we could pay off the debt if such a creature existed, but unicorns aren’t real, and neither is the math Democrats put forward in this email about magically tripling your “gift.”

The urgency in the email is funny because it is mostly pictures. Maybe the DSCC doesn’t think their voters can read. Hell, maybe their voters can’t read – they likely did “graduate” from Democrat-controlled public schools. It reads, “[Democrats] currently hold all of the most competitive seats up for election” from the 538 blog, then there are pictures of five Democrat Senators up next year: Rosen (NV), Tester (MT), Brown (OH), Baldwin (WI) and Casey (PA). All millionaires, all begging middle-class Americans for money. Conning them.
The email then goes to a quote from Rachel Maddow, “If you have money to donate, now is the time.” If that seems a bit odd – especially if you remember a time when networks considered themselves to be “news” organizations would demand a party NOT use them or their “talent” to raise money – you’re not alone. But you are living in the past.
Yes, Rachel Maddow did say that line, advocating for people to give money, but she said it back in October of 2020. Just imagine how much worse and “looser” with any standards of journalism MSNBC and NBC News have gotten in the ensuing years.
Of course, Democrats are worried. West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin announced he’s not seeking reelection to the Senate, which should mean a pick-up for Republicans. I use the word “should” because no party in history is quite as good at losing races they should win than the Republican Party is.
Two days before the magic match email, the DSCC sent out one on Manchin. It read, “We won't sugarcoat this, Derek. We're at a critical point in the fight to defend our Senate majority. Republicans think they have all the momentum, but there are a few things they don't know. They don't know how strong our incumbents are in critical states like Montana and Ohio. They don't know how close our fantastic Democratic challengers are to beating toxic senators like Ted Cruz and Rick Scott.
And most importantly, they don't know the power of this grassroots team. It's because of YOU that we've been able to win victory after victory in the Senate, and it's because of you that we'll do it again -- but only if everyone steps up to do their part. So please, Derek, we can't wait another second: Chip in $5 (becomes $15) before MIDNIGHT to help us meet our Emergency-Response $50,000 fundraising goal. Every dollar you give will be TRIPLED and MAXIMIZE your impact to defend our razor-thin Senate majority.”
They don’t explain, again, how this magical tripling happens.
The next day came a reply to their last panicked email that read, “Derek -- We needed to make sure you saw this. We called on our grassroots supporters everywhere to step up in the wake of Joe Manchin announcing he won't seek re-election in 2024 -- but we're STILL falling short of our must-hit goal! Donations have been pouring in, but with just hours left until our midnight deadline, we need your help to hit our $50,000 fundraising goal. Our Triple-Impact Match is still UNLOCKED, so please, stand with your fellow Democrats and chip in $5 to defend our razor-thin Senate majority.”
Smell the desperation. They’re not desperate because they’re worried about the election but because they always want more money. They are the personification of the lines in the song “Fortunate Son,” where it goes, “And when you ask 'em, ‘How much should we give?’ Hoo, they only answer, ‘More, more, more, more.’”
The honest answer is nothing; give them absolutely nothing. Let them triple that.
