The race for political party nominations will seriously heat up soon. The Republicans have planned another debate later this month; it will be interesting to see if Donald Trump decides to join that one. I suspect it will depend on how things look in the polls. If he is still far ahead, he will use the same rationale for not attending as he did in the first debate. If he feels some discomfort, he’ll show up. We’ll see. My guess right now is, no, he won’t be there.
If the polls are anywhere near accurate prognosticators of the future (and that’s the key—they can try to tell us about current trends, but they can’t predict the future), then the Republican nomination seems to be sewn up. The push by pro-Trump Republicans is strong and it is by no means certain anyone can overtake him. It may already be a fait accompli, but, as an historian, I’ll wait and see. History doesn’t always dance to our tunes.
It is the Democratic Party situation that could get interesting. In the past few months, there has been speculation that Gavin Newsom might challenge Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination so that he can turn all of America into the cesspool California is (Thailand, anyone?). But, he has apparently laid that speculation to rest now. He just recently announced that he will not seek the Deaamocratic nomination, saying that Vice President Kamala Harris is the “natural successor” to Biden. Well, she probably WOULD at least be as bad as Biden is, so Gavin might have something there. It is hard to imagine anyone being worse than Biden, but Harris would certainly try. The question is, WHEN will Kamala “naturally succeed” degenerate Joe? Next year, or not until 2028? If she waits till 2028, that means Newsom might have to wait until 2036 to run. I can’t see him doing that, not for a moment.
So, will we have Harris at the top of the Democratic ticket next year? It isn’t impossible, though my money is still on Joe. Odds for Joe might be dropping, however.
A recent CNN poll (if anything CNN does can be trusted) indicated that 67% of Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents would like to see someone other than Joe Biden as the Democratic Party nominee next year. When pressed on who they wanted, there was no clear choice; 82% said just anybody but Biden.

So, two-thirds of Democrats don’t want Biden. Do you think Biden cares about the polls that indicate so many, in his own party, don’t want him to run again? Do you think that will stop him from seeking a second term? Not a chance. Now, the powers at be in the party, if they genuinely fear Biden could lose the Presidency next year, might try to talk him out of the race (Taco Jill certainly wants him to run), but it is quite obvious, at the moment, that Biden wants another four years to continue his destruction of America. Even though two-thirds of the members of the party he heads don’t want him, he wants another four years. This isn’t surprising in the least.
It doesn’t sound terribly democratic, either. What we have here is sheer, total narcissism, a lust for power, an uncontrollable appetite by a mental and moral midget to continue his pompous, self-glorifying, self-aggrandizement, regardless of what the people desire. Joe Biden could not care less what others think. Nor could he care less about the United States of America. He cares about one thing—Joe Biden. However, it is only fair to say that Biden is not alone in such vanity. Washington is full of people, on both sides of the aisle, who think the country will disintegrate if they aren’t there to guide it. The only problem is, everyone but them (and their sycophants) can see that it is THEY who are digging America’s grave, extinguishing the greatest country the world has ever seen. They can’t see it because they are too busy preening in front of a mirror, listening to grovellers and boot-lickers tell them how indispensable to mankind they are. There are few things on this earth more revolting.
This is what power does to people, folks. Biden, is 80+ years old, and he can’t give it up. He just can’t give it up. People who think highly of themselves, as history shows, think they are literally superior to you and have a right to dictate and control your life to the smallest degree. You can do only what they allow you to do. And, in too many cases, if you don’t submit, it’s off to the gulag you go (or off with your head). They are the most dangerous people on earth and the peons have always seemed helpless against them. In America, we can vote, but whom do we always vote for? The same species of rat, over and over again. What can we do? Those people go to Washington because they WANT power, not because they want to give it back to you and me. It is almost enough to make one become an anarchist.
Our Founders warned us about this and about people who crave power. They told us, countless times, don’t give power to despots like Biden. And they gave us a Constitution to try to prevent the Bidens, Pelosis, McConnells, et al from destroying the country. The one thing the Founders could not do is change the nature of man. Power, as Shelley said, poisons every hand that touches it. And, tragically, American politicians are every bit as guilty of that as the worst tyrants in history.
But, as I have said countless times before, we never pay attention to the wisdom of the past. Americans, we are about to vote ourselves and our nation into oblivion. I wish I could be optimistic. Somebody, please, give me a reason to be.
