As much as it grieves me, and as much as I hope I am wrong, it appears pretty obvious to me that Ronna McDaniel will be re-elected as RNC Chair this week. Admittedly, I am a long way from America (I live in Thailand) so I don’t have a real good “up close” pulse on what is happening, especially in Washington, D.C. I can only base my opinions on what I read, and, as much as that, on history (since I was an historian by trade). And history and my reading are not optimistic that the Republican Party will do the right thing and dismiss a loser. Ronna McDaniel will be re-elected RNC Chair again.
Why do I make this prognostication? Let me enumerate the reasons:
1. Washington, D.C. As much as the Republican base is strongly conservative, the Washington, D.C. Republican establishment is overwhelmingly RINO. And they care no more about what you want than Xi Jinping cares what the people of China want. Washington, D.C. is about power, a group of elites—on both sides of the aisle—who intermingle pleasantly, to whom ideology and American greatness mean nothing, whose ONLY goal is to keep their privileged, exalted positions, whatever the cost. We often complain about the “Leftist elites” who hate the “peasants” (you and me), and look down their noses at us. “Shut up and do as you’re told!” And, by “Leftist elites” we generally mean “Democrats.” But what does RINO mean? “Republican IN NAME ONLY,” which means they are actually Democrats, or maybe “Democrat-lite” at best. Better, they are Washington establishment types who are just as elitist as Pelosi, Schumer, Schiff and every other far-left radical who makes us vomit. Think about it, folks. Do you believe Mitch McConnell cares what you think about anything? Mitt Romney? Lisa Murkowski? They are interested in only one thing: remaining in power, and to do that, most of them play the Washington, D.C., game. And Washington, D.C., isn’t “conservative.” I can see that all the way from Thailand.
2. Mitch McConnell. In support of point number one, I submit to you the following: who was re-elected Senate Minority Leader for this session of Congress? How many of YOU wanted Mitch McConnell re-elected to that post? How much influence did YOU have in that election? The Republican Washington establishment wanted RINO McConnell back in charge; sucking up to Democrats is necessary to keep power centered in Washington. The Washington Republican establishment wants Ronna McDaniel as RNC Chair. You don’t, but they do. Who do you think is going to win that battle?
3. Kevin McCarthy. TWO HUNDRED REPUBLICANS were willing to make McCarthy Speaker of the House based on all the garbage Pelosi and the Democrats had put in place over the years. It took 20 very courageous Republicans to force McCarthy to grovel so that he could be Speaker. So far, McCarthy has done ok (how long do you think that will last?). 200 Republicans versus 20 Republicans. Washington versus you. Who do you think will be elected RNC Chair?

4. Donald Trump. Mr. Trump said, “I like ‘em both”, i.e., Ronna and Harmeet. Barf. I’m not sure Trump’s endorsement of Harmeet would swing the tide in her favor, but he gave every RINO on the election committee an excuse to vote for McDaniel. You didn’t do the Republican Party any favors on this one, Mr. Trump. He should remember that, if Ronna’s head had been outside where is apparently was in 2020, he might still be President. Quit insulting your supporters, Mr. Trump.
5. We’ve got a long way to go yet. It is pretty obvious that the great majority of the “base” of the Republican Party is conservative. But, as per point number one, that means little to nothing to the party elites in Washington, D.C. Donald Trump, an outsider with a populist message, was able to win the Presidency in 2016, not just because of his being an outsider and having a solid, pro-American campaign, but also because he was running against one of the most despicable candidates in U.S. political history. And many people had had enough of the anti-American arrogance of Barack Obama. Before Trump, the last conservative to be elected President was Ronald Reagan in 1980 and 1984. It took a while for Reagan to build his coalition to get the Republican nomination in 1980, and he ran against one of the worst Presidents in American history. But he was enormously popular (liberals hated him, of course) because he was successful as President and had a very winning political demeanor. But since then, who have Republican nominees been? George H.W. Bush I, Bob Dole, George W. Bush, John McCain, Mitt Romney. RINOs all. Consummate Washington, D.C. RINOs all. That is who the Republican establishment offers to us. Trump, again, was an exception; that was a major reason he won. But, as we well know, the Republican RINO-class establishment in Washington hates Trump. They hate him because you like him and he threatens their privileged positions. If you nominate him again next year, they’ll have to go along. But Mitch McConnell won’t like it one bit.
The conservative movement in America is strong, especially in rural areas where people still love the country. But when it comes to true power, we don’t have near as much as we would like to have, and our influence in Washington, D.C., is about as strong as it is in Beijing. Taking over Washington is a monumental task, and we are far, far from doing that. The Democrat and RINO powers-that-be are too entrenched, too intermingled, too determined to stay put, regardless of the mess they are making of the nation. We conservatives may be strong in the countryside; but we are spitting against a hurricane in Washington.
Ronna McDaniel wins re-election as RNC Chair. And probably loses the Presidency, House, and Senate next year. And the country not long after that.
Please tell me on Saturday that I was wrong in my prediction in this article.
Don’t miss out on some good American reading from the good ol’ days. My western novels, Whitewater and River Bend, are available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Eliva.com. A third western, Allie’s Dilemma, is available for Kindle only. And read some different posts on my blog at thailandlewis.blogspot.com.
