On the 22nd of May in 1856, in the United States Senate chamber, Representative Preston Brooks, a pro-slavery Democrat from South Carolina, used a walking cane to attack Senator Charles Sumner, an abolitionist Republican from Massachusetts, striking him repeatedly about the head. Obviously, slavery was a contentious issue in our country at the time, and passions were running high.
While I am not advocating for any elected official nowadays to physically assault another, I want to know where the hell is the passion in the Republican Party? I'm not talking about the wild-eyed crazies and lunatics that the Democrats have become, making fools of themselves like New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and others who babble senselessly. I'm talking about having a fire in the belly! The willingness to fight back, loudly and with anger, when Democrats try to pull some of their shenanigans.
If Republicans want to fire up the base and reach more people, they better light a little fire under themselves. I watched Kevin McCarthy recently talking about what Republicans intend to do if they take control of the House after the November elections. I nearly fell asleep. How about a little passion, Kev! I want to see and be convinced that Republicans are going to come in like gangbusters and make Democrats pay for what they've done to our country.
And that goes for the news media too. They need to be called out every single day for what they are, an ally of the Democratic Party. They need to understand that hiding behind the "freedom of the press" goes only so far, and if they lie and distort or omit coverage of important issues because it might hurt the Democratic Party, there just may be some consequences they won't be happy with.
I want to hear that Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell are both kicked off the Intelligence Committee. In fact, they are both so corrupt and compromised that they should not be allowed to serve on any committee assignments. Look what the Democrats have done to Marjorie Taylor Greene. If I don't see Republicans kicking butt and taking names (figuratively), I'm not sure how enthusiastic I may be to vote for Republicans again when the 2024 election comes around.
I saw Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert recently speaking in the House chamber and she was fired up. She ignored the pounding of the gavel from the Democrat running the show, and all I could think to say was, "Atta girl!" We need more of that. We need Republicans to stick it to the Democrats. And if there are Republicans serving right now who aren't up to the task or aren't willing to run roughshod over the Democrats, then they need to be shown the exit door the next time the primaries come around.
We need firebrands who get loud and get angry. During the Congressional Baseball game, when Linda Sanchez, the Democratic Congresswoman from California, gave "the middle finger" to Republicans as she ran past their dugout, there should have been a near riot on the baseball diamond. Republicans should have flown out of that dugout and got right up into her face and called her out on it. Instead, they just stood there in the dugout, some in disbelief, others amused, I guess. It was just another disgusting display put on by a Democrat that was gotten away with.
Like Chuck Schumer threatening Supreme Court justices. No one is more boring than Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. If Mitch objected to Schumer's tirade in front of the Supreme Court, whatever Mitch said is long forgotten. It shouldn't be. Schumer's tirade merited a loud and memorable response, one for the history books. Considering the threat to our democracy posed by the Democrats, the time for that so-called "collegiality" of "the world's greatest deliberative body" (what a load of hogwash) is long past.
To quote General George S. Patton, Mitch needs to "lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way." Mitch's time has passed if he's not willing to go toe-to-toe with Democrat Chuck Schumer. I'm tired of "collegiality," I want passion.
If the current crop of Republican "leaders" can't give us the passion and the fire we want, it's time for new leadership. No more Milquetoast Republicans. No more compromising conservative Republican principles. We want fighters who are willing to show the passion and the guts needed to take the Democrats on and win.
