The Stacey Abrams Long Game

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

For years, Stacey Abrams has been quietly laying the groundwork to announce her candidacy for Governor of Georgia—and then President of the United States.

It wasn’t so obvious back in 2018, when she spun her infamy into fame for losing a gubernatorial race by more than 50,000 votes to Brian Kemp. And it still seems like a full-blown announcement for President won’t happen until after she takes her second shot at the same seat, to secure a better stepping stone as Georgia’s Governor. But as with all blind ambition from every would-be career politician, her real intentions have started to bleed through the façade.

Last month, President Joe Biden went on the record almost endorsing her as his successor. Last week, she announced a national speaking tour – where she’ll crisscross the country for a “candid conversation on politics, leadership, and social justice.” And earlier this month, Stacey openly admitted, for the first time, her expectation to be elected as the next President of the United States. As she told CBS, “Do I hold it as an ambition? Absolutely. And even more importantly, when someone asks me if that’s my ambition, I have a responsibility to say ‘yes.’”

In retrospect, given her carefully cultivated image, her naked political ambitions are hardly surprising. She has risen to national fame by expertly exploiting the once-fringe ideologies of her own party. She has raised millions of dollars in dark money by aggressively normalizing the radical ideas of the far Left. She has galvanized cancel culture to smear the GOP and falsely attack conservatives. And she has done it all—peddling lies and divisive, dangerous ideologies with the fawning assent of the mainstream media complicit in her schemes.

To be clear, Stacey Abrams is not the humble freedom fighter she feigns to be, and she is certainly not the reasonable and moderate Democrat she once played. Since her defeat in 2018, she has argued for a sweeping federal elections overhaul that would allow illegal aliens to vote and permit same-day voting. She has pushed for abolishing the filibuster, making Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico a state, and everything else in the liberal playbook from legalizing abortion, to restoring socialized medicine, to passing sweeping climate change legislation, to opening our borders and defunding our police.

The liberal media has been content to enable her rise to liberal stardom nonetheless – writing glowing profile pieces and flatly ignoring the many indiscretions of her New Georgia Project group. They have propelled her to a Nobel Peace Prize nomination and paved the way for multiple book deals and a television series. And alongside top leaders in her Party, they have prematurely crowned her as the next President of the United States of America.

Stacey Abrams has played the long game – and after years of grooming the media and crafting her image and attempting to normalize her out of touch views, she’s getting ready to make a serious run at Georgia’s governorship – and then, just according to plan, our nation’s highest office.

Georgians and Americans alike should take a harder look at Stacey Abrams and the shady, dark money funded political network that champions her every move. Abrams’ convivial veneer – no doubt cultivated through years of hefty media training – masks an insatiable political ambition. Her innocent agenda of “pursuing equality” conceals a desperate desire to transform this country through radical ideas and far-Left policy.

Now that she has finally shown her hand, it’s up to Georgia to put a stop to her ascendance before she inflicts anymore damage on our state and country. Stop Stacey, a grassroots powered organization, has already laid the groundwork to defeat her at the ballot box in 2022 by exposing Abrams’ Soros funded political organizations, highlighting her insane agenda, and mobilizing Republicans to Get Out The Vote. But now more than ever, conservatives across our state and nation have a duty to join the fight to Stop Stacey.

If we don’t, Abrams will win the long game—and America will lose badly.
