‘Send Her Back!’ Was Not Just About Omar

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

Victor Frankl once said, “An abnormal reaction to an abnormal situation is normal behavior.”

We’re living in incredibly abnormal times.  Like a fire truck driving the speed limit to a house engulfed in flames, normal behavior in an abnormal situation is not only abnormal, but dangerous and irresponsible.

Chanting “send her back” at a presidential event, in normal times, would be rude and inappropriate.  But in these times, “send her back” is normal for people incessantly being told that their deeply held beliefs are racist, fascist, xenophobic, homophobic, Islamophobic, misogynist and “Hitler-esque.”

We’ve had enough.

While the incredibly ignorant and arrogant “Squad” are being treated like Girl Scouts, “send her back” chanters are being excoriated as racists.  Why racists?  Because Omar is black.  That’s it.

CNN’s Jake Tapper called it “naked racism.”

Chris Cuomo quipped: “Trump says he wants to ‘Make America Great Again.’ But what he means is, ‘Make America Hate Again.’

Former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau said it was “one of the most chilling and horrifying things I’ve ever seen in politics.”

Jeb Bush aide Tim Miller tweeted: “I’d say to my friends in DC going along with Trump.  Imagine how this video of the President leading a white mob in a ‘Send Her Back’ chant targeting a black refugee is going to look in your kids’ high school government/history classes.”

Rachel Maddow said that it’s “possible that this is the new normal for the next year and a half.”

And, speaking of normal reactions in abnormal times, Michelle Obama – trapped in a La-La Land of being the “World’s Most Admired Woman” –  chirped this beauty pageant tweet: “What truly makes our country great is its diversity.  I’ve seen that beauty in so many ways over the years.  Whether we are born here or seek refuge here, there’s a place for us all.   We must remember it’s not my America or your America.  It’s our America.”

They always leave out the illegal part.

This is the same Michelle Obama who repeatedly called Trump a misogynist in her book.  Like Rep. Aryanna Pressley, Obama hears voices. A woman who voted against Hillary “voted against their own voice,” she said at the Inbound 2017 conference.

“What does it mean for us as women that we look at those two candidates – as women – and many of us said, ‘That guy.  He’s better for me.  His voice is more true to me.’ Well, to me, that just says you don’t like your voice. You like the thing we’re told to like.”

Where were all these people when the four activist congresswomen were spewing all the lies, profanity, tyrannical racism, and the anti-Trump, anti-American, anti-Israel hate?

“Because we don't need any more brown faces that don't want to be a brown voice,” Pressley said at Netroots.  “We don’t need black faces that don't want to be a black voice. We don't need Muslims that don’t want to be a Muslim voice. We don’t need queers that don't want to be a queer voice.”

Well, Mrs. Pressley, we don’t need more Americans who don’t want to be an American voice!

The hate-Trump universe fails to see that Donald Trump is our voice. He didn’t just stumble into office one day like some dictator.  We voted for him.  For us, he was the ax behind the glass that you only break in case of an emergency.  We knew it wasn’t going to be pretty.

The candidate could’ve been Donald Trump or “Tronald Dump” – we didn’t care!  The country was going to Hell in a handbasket.  All the articulate, “presidential” and genteel professional politicians just sat back and respectfully let the American house burn out of control.  They still are.

The Obama years created an extremely abnormal situation that required an abnormal reaction if we hoped for any change back to normalcy. Trump was that abnormality.  Focusing solely on his abnormalities is like obsessing over a fire truck running lights and breaking speed limits while ignoring the fire that’s burning the house to the ground.  Voting for Trump was not about Trump; it was about the fire.

Omar may have been the latest spark, but the "send her back" chant erupted from a volcano of frustration that’s been seething for decades. Our voice, three years into Trump’s election, is being muted – more than ever – by lies, threats, violence and a totalitarian political correctness.

Pent-up frustration, released in a 13-second chant, didn’t happen in a vacuum.

We see the president we hired being disrespected daily by a criminal resistance that uses the laws and language of freedom to obstruct him by any means necessary.

We see illegals openly breaking our laws to the cheers of the media, organized groups and elected officials who use the most incendiary language to oppose the people putting their lives in danger to uphold the law.

We see the same flag that gave Marines on Iwo Jima a reason to keep fighting and dying in WWII being desecrated and disrespected.

We see Antifa anarchists, vomiting vicious anti-American slogans, attacking innocent people while police sit by and do nothing.

We see politicians like Nancy Pelosi humanizing machete-wielding MS-13 butchers after Trump, empathizing with their victims, called them “animals.”

We see the hard-earned reputations of men like Brett Kavanaugh being cemented into history with undeserved asterisks created by false witnesses.

We see the outright crimes of Hillary Clinton being ignored by the same people who scream for Trump’s impeachment for crimes yet to be determined.

We see four activists, posing as lawmakers, being protected from earned criticism while they work to transform the Democrats into a Manchurian Party.  Drenched in the indoctrination of a warped American history, they’re on a jihad to finish the job of “fundamentally transforming the United States of America.”

“Send her back” was normal behavior to an abnormal situation created by people who crafted a voodoo doll version of Trump which they think justifies their hate. They will not stop. They will not listen.  They will not change. They’ve put power, party and politics over patriotism, and they’re only going to get worse.

“Send her back” was not just about Omar.  It’s not even about Trump.  It’s about our legitimate moral, political and philosophical differences being demonized constantly.  It’s about our side being utterly exhausted by having the irreconcilable views of socialists and leftists rammed down our throats by tyrannical ideologues who use our civility as a weapon.

We’re fed up now.   “Send her back” was a signal that a tide is turning.
