I've got a lot of #NeverTrump friends. Heck, I bet most of my friends are #NeverTrump. Hell, my wife is #NeverTrump. I like #NeverTrump people, even though I think they're wrong. We share the same goals. We just have really crappy choices and are making different ones.
I assume they all think I'm wrong too, and I'm not going to argue with them. For one thing, they're my friends. I don't want to argue with my friends. I want to mock stupid libs with my friends while consuming red meat and redder wine. The second reason is that I'm not going to change their minds, nor are they going to change mine (although Donald Trump himself still retains that power should he become sufficiently annoying).
So we should just sit down, have some beers, and talk about something else until November because we're not going to change and fighting each other redirects the fire away from our real enemy.
That's Hillary Clinton. She's the real enemy.
So these aren’t arguments. These are reasons. Why am I giving my general election vote to somebody who is often demonstrably unconservative, can be dreadfully immature, and who has a past that's absolutely bloodcurdling to any conservative? Well, I'll tell you.

Hillary is worse.
It's that simple.
Hillary is worse.
Now, some people disagree that Hillary is worse than Trump. They see them as occupying precisely the same bandwidth in the spectrum of failure. Not so. Hillary is demonstrably horrible, and in a purely utilitarian calculation The Donald offers a marginally greater chance of being less horrible. Hence, Trump.
Let's look at their respective policies. Hillary’s policies are all liberal all of the time, and always will be all liberal all of the time. Trump has embraced some terrible policies in the past, but also a number of conservative policies. With Hillary, I have exactly 0% chance of her implementing conservative policies. With Trump, I have a >0% chance of having him implement conservative policies. Advantage Trump.
Hillary absolutely will nominate Supreme Court justices who will gut the First and Second Amendments and treat the Commerce Clause like one of Bill’s interns. Trump has provided a list of potential nominees who won’t, and he might choose Justice Scalia’s replacement from among them. Advantage Trump.
Some say that Donald Trump is an “authoritarian.” But Trump cares nothing about what I do personally. Hillary, on the other hand, cares deeply about what I do personally because she's a totalitarian. She wants to control what I think, feel, and do, and even what bathroom I want to do it in. Trump may have shrugged his shoulders at the idea of transgender potties, but that's not the kind of idea that he would ever come up with. He doesn’t care. However, it's exactly the kind of obnoxious, intrusive idea libfascists like Hillary come up with. Trump just wants to sit around being rich and famous. Hillary wants to improve people like me and forcibly morph us into her neutered vision of the new socialist beta male she's been dreaming of since she was an embittered last call five at Wellesley.
Trump may be kind of thuggish, but he'll leave me alone. Hillary's going to come looking for me, and she’s foolish and clueless enough to push and push until we normals get tired of it and start to push back. I, for one, prefer my country not to be sucked into a second civil war because some former president’s angry wife is playing out a freakish psychodrama revenge fantasy against all the guys who have rejected her, from her father to Bill to those of us male-identifying men who laugh at her cankles. Advantage Trump.
And once in power, who would be checked and balanced? The whole Democratic Party plus all their media pals would be out to lasso Trump Gone Wild. So would the Deep State – the bureaucracy would be eager to passively egress The Donald should he overstep. And they would likely be joined by establishment Republicans who think that fighting liberals “is not who we are.” Should he give them cause, they would impeach Trump in a heartbeat. So even assuming Trump wanted to be a dictator – frankly, a pretty silly notion – he couldn’t be one.
But Hillary has an entire party and a cultural apparatus behind her that actually believes in the progressive fascism that she adores. Stop her? These Alinskyite apparatchiks will be cheering her on. And do you think the GOP establishment is going to suddenly grow a set of those things Hillary hates and fight? Yeah, right. She could sacrifice a toddler to Baal in Lafayette Park and not be impeached. Hillary would have the eager support of Democratic fellow travelers, liberal judges, the left wing bureaucracy, a corrupt media and Hollywood, all of them encouraging this dumb, vindictive shrew to put a “her” in Führer.
So if you're concerned about real fascism instead of fantasy fascism, advantage Trump.
Finally, let’s talk about principles. I understand principles. I put myself in places that could have gotten me killed over principles. And there are a lot of my conservative friends who feel that they can't vote for a guy like Donald Trump on principle. Well, I can't argue with that. He certainly doesn't deserve their vote. But he's getting mine, because my overriding principle is not to let libfascist monsters like Hillary win.
Now, if you want to tell me that I have no principles and don’t measure up, and blah blah blah, you should probably keep that to yourself. This is a fight you won’t win, so don’t start it. And don't look at me to start up on my #NeverTrump friends. That’s a fight that I won’t win, and bickering is only going to keep us from getting back together in 2020 to clean house and elect a real conservative president.
You do what you got to do. I'm going to do what I got to do.
So now that that’s settled, let's go pound some beers.
