Karen Lewis Lays Bare Chicago Teachers Union’s Mission: Build and Maintain Power

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

When Karen Lewis spoke to the recent “Occupy Department of Education” protest in Washington, D.C., she neatly explained the lens through which the union makes all of its decisions.

See the outrageous video here.

She said all decisions must pass these qualifications:

1. Will it strengthen the union?

2. Will it unify the union?

3. Will it build the union’s power?

Strangely, what’s good for students is missing from the equation.

So if students’ interests conflict with those of the teachers union, we can predict who will come first. The adults.

Lewis also said union activists must take political action to grow their power. They should run for city or school offices and those who don’t run should become go-to people for those in power.
