Uh oh: Former Whitman Housekeeper Retains Gloria Allred, Announces Press Conference

Alternate headline-- Fame-Addicted Liberal Attorney Again Trying to Derail GOP Gubernatorial Campaign With Sleazy Allegations:

Meg Whitman's former housekeeper has hired celebrity attorney Gloria Allred and called an 11 a.m. press conference to make what Allred's office is calling "allegations" against the Republican gubernatorial nominee.

This is not the first time Allred has injected herself into a campaign in the closing days. In 2003, a former stuntwoman hired Allred to pursue claims of sexual assault and defamation against now-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. That suit was dismissed.

The presser is scheduled for 2pm ET.  Stay tuned for the "substance" of the allegations.  It appears that Allred's client will allege some form of mistreatment--with a racial tinge, natch:

Meg Whitman's housekeeper for 9 years will hold a news conference today, Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. to tell how she suffered as a long time Latina household employee in Meg Whitman's home and why she is filing a claim against Ms. Whitman.

Team Whitman has pre-emptively issued a statement on the matter:

"Gloria Allred is a shameful manipulator and the timing of today's news conference so close to the election should serve as a warning to Californians that they are witnessing dirty political smears at their worst," Whitman spokeswoman Andrea Jones Rivera said in a statement.

It's about 2 days premature, but this has "October surprise" written all over it.
