Should Michael Steele Resign?

In case you missed the latest episode of RNC chair Michael Steele putting his foot in his mouth, during a fundraiser in Noank, Conn., Steele blamed America's troubles in securing victory in Afghanistan on the Obama administration.  "Keep in mind again, for our federal candidates, this was a war of Obama's choosing," he said.  "This is not something the United States had actively prosecuted or wanted to engage in."

While the Obama administration may be floundering in effectively executing a sound war strategy, it's ridiculous to say the war in Afghanistan is "not something the United States... wanted to engage in."  Following 9/11 we ALL wanted to go into Afghanistan, Democrats and Republicans, and as far as I know, the vast majority of Steele's own party membership supports our continued fight to banish the Taliban and hunt down Osama bin Laden in and around the Middle Eastern country.

In response to Steele's remarks, the Weekly Standard's Bill Kristol immediately called for the RNC chair to resign.  Meanwhile, Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, defended Steele.  And despite previously calling Rush Limbaugh's radio chatter "ugly and incendiary," El Rushbo today defended Steele and lashed out at the liberal media for itching to write a story that "they (Republicans) fired a black guy."

Not to be left out of the debate, Jon Stewart invited Steele to appear on his Comedy Central show:
