Like a good liberal, historian Gore Vidal worships at the alter of education (read: the amount of knowledge one can stockpile). When God is replaced with letter grades, the name of the university you attended, and the amount of knowledge you have collected, qualities like leadership, character, values, life (see Vidal's "murder" comment), and the love of God become things added at the bottom of your resume (if they are valued at all).
