What "Real World"?

Note to President Obama: If you're running for re-election, it's best not to employ verbal tropes that invite ridicule.  In a statement designed to portray Mitt Romney as out-of-touch, at a fundraiser yesterday, the President said this: "Well, those of us who've spent time in the real world know . . ."

Does the President somehow think he's spent time in the "real world"?  Would that be in his time as a community organizer, or running for office?  Would that be after he became a US senator, when his wife got a cushy job at the University of Chicago medical center(strangely discontinued after her tenure) -- or when she has headed off on frequent and numerous glitzy taxpayer-subsidized vacations? The President has driven a car twice since spring 2007, five years ago.

No one's claiming that Mitt Romney's had a hard-knock life.  But whatever "real world" the President and First Lady are supposedly occupying, no doubt there are plenty of Americans who would like to join them there.
