Polls Close Late Due to Long Lines

Polls in Virginia closed an hour late tonight due to long lines. Polls in Florida, specifically in the panhandle and Miami, will close at 10 p.m. EST for the same reason.

“This is mayhem,” said Carla Batlle of Miami, who emerged with her husband, Adrian, after an ordeal that began at 1:10 p.m. and didn’t end until almost 7. “It’s a debacle. This is unorganized, unprofessional.”

It’s not going well at all,” Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez said as he trudged through the parking lot while people in the parking lot yelled, “Shame on you” and “Venezuela runs better elections.”

Adrian Batlle said it took him only 10 minutes to vote, but first he had to wait hours in various lines trying to find a poll worker who had his name on the registration rolls.

“I don’t think it’s worth it,” he said. “I wouldn’t do it again.”

Hundreds more were still waiting in a line snaking through the parking lot well past the official 7 p.m. EST closing time for the polls.
