J. Bonnie Newman to replace NH Senator Judd Gregg

As I blogged Sunday, Judd Gregg would not accept the nomination as the Commerce Secretary for the Obama Administration unless a Republican replaced him in the Senate. Gregg got his wish as J. Bonnie Newman has been named as his replacement.

From the Union Leader, "Newman, 63, was Sen. Judd Gregg's chief of staff when he was in the U.S. House in the 1980s. She has a long resume in the private and public sectors, highlighted by her roles as assistant to the President for management and administration in the George H.W. Bush White House, an assistant commerce secretary in the Reagan administration, interim president of the University of New Hampshire and executive dean at the Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government."

In New Hampshire Governor John Lynch's announcement, the Union Leader says "In his announcement speech, the Democratic governor said Newman would not seek election in 2010 nor would she endorse a candidate."

Can you imagine a Democrat adhering to these rules after the fact?
