Schumer Pushes For Gay Marriage In 50 States

Next week, there will be a referendum in Maine to overturn a same-sex marriage law passed by the state Legislature. There will also be a referendum in Washington State to decide whether to give same-sex couples the benefits of marriage, excluding the use of the word "marriage" to describe their relationship.

Voter turnout in special referendums such as these are highly unpredictable, so it's hard to tell what will be decided. But with the latest poll saying 52 percent of voters in Maine are for the same-sex marriage laws and 43 percent are against, it's clear that the populace is still very much divided.

Despite this divide, Chuck Schumer decided to reinforce his desire to install gay marriage in "all 50 states" at a recent New York gay rights fundraiser. "This should not be a partisan issue; after all, if Dick cheney can support gay marriage, so can every Senator."

Sorry, Chuck. Too many Americans are still very much undecided.
