Jindal Cancels Convention Appearance

In a news conference held just a little while ago, Governor Bobby Jindal announced he would not be attending or speaking at the GOP Convention. As earlier noted, the state of Louisiana has declared a state of emergency and Governor Jindal has urged residents in low-lying areas to evacuate immediately.

Governor Bobby Jindal said at his press conference earlier: "I will not be speaking at or attending the Republican convention in Florida," then continued there was "no time for party politics. This storm is non-partisan.”

Jindal was supposed to be speaking Tuesday night amidst many other popular Republican governors, including New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.  Many were looking forward to his speech as he was on the shortlist of Vice Presidential candidates.

This announcement comes following the announcement this weekend that the Convention would be condensed into three days with concerns about the hurricane.  Now the Convention leaders will have to work to adjust the schedule to accommodate Governor Jindal’s absence.
