'Doubling Down on Stupid': Sen. Kennedy Lashes Out at Pelosi and Schiff on CBS

Once Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) gets going, there's little to stop him. Margaret Brennan didn't stand a chance. So, when he started his diatribe against Democrats Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi and their biased impeachment inquiry, all the CBS anchor could do was listen.

Kennedy said the Democrats are not organizing a fair process. If it was truly fair, they'd all be sitting down and listening to all the testimony, the cross examination, and the context.

"I think that Speaker Pelosi's decision and Adam Schiff's decision, to prevent Republicans from calling their own witnesses to the live testimony, is just doubling down on stupid."

It will be, he predicted, "a fair and impartial firing squad."

Republicans have several witnesses in mind for this week's hearings, including the whistleblower himself. But they know there's a fat chance of Schiff agreeing to that, particularly after the report came out that he knew the whistleblower's identity before he filed his complaint against Trump.

The whistleblower claimed, via secondhand information, that Trump threatened to withhold military aid from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky if he didn't investigate Joe and his son Hunter Biden and their ties to the corrupt gas company Burisma Holdings. Trump rejected the quid pro quo theory, insisting that his request about the Bidens was about rooting out corruption, not his re-election campaign. The president said his phone call with Zelensky was "perfect" and he plans to release the phone transcript of another call he had with Zelensky in April, "probably Tuesday."

The public hearings into the impeachment inquiry begin Wednesday.
