High Times: Did Kamala Harris Pot Story Just Go Up In Smoke?

To be quite honest, I have zero problems that Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) smoked weed. Millions of Americans do it. So, when she sat down for an interview with The Breakfast Club and said she got high and listened to Tupac and Snoop Dog in college, I shrugged. But now, the high times are over because it looked like she totally lied about her weed days. This is your classic ‘how do you do, fellow kids’moment. If she lied, she’s a panderer a la Hillary Clinton and her past radio spot talking about hot sauce. Here’s what the Boston Globe published from the pro-weed publication Marijuana Moment:

The 2020 Democratic presidential candidate made the admission during an interview on the radio program The Breakfast Club on Monday. After she discussed her support for legalization and outlined some of her remaining concerns, the host asked Harris whether she’s ever used cannabis.

“I have. And I did inhale,” she said, laughing. “It was a long time ago, but yes. I just broke news.”

It was during college, Harris confirmed, and she said she used a joint.

“I think that it gives a lot of people joy, and we need more joy.”

And what was playing in the background when a young Kamala Harris was hitting a joint?

“Oh yeah, definitely Snoop. Tupac for sure,” she said.

And as many have pointed out, the timeline is screwed here. Tupac and Snoop’s first albums came out in 1991 and 1993 respectfully. Harris graduated in 1986. Did she lie? By this fact, Harris was smoking weed while working in the district attorney’s office in Alameda County. At the time, she was regarded as an anti-marijuana crusader, which she maintained throughout her career in the state, all the way up to when she occupied the state attorney general’s office. So, she pandered or she was toking up while also jailing people for using marijuana. This won’t impact her campaign in the sense of derailing it, but it does give her Democratic opponents more ammunition to label her a hypocrite (possibly), inauthentic, and someone who can’t be trusted, among other things. She flubbed a marijuana story. Like, c’mon! It looks like this story is going up in smoke.
