The FBI is investigating text messages sent to several Republican members of the House. According to the Wall Street Journal, someone sent various messages pretending to be Vice President Mike Pence's press secretary, Alyssa Farah. The texts specifically ask for the whereabouts of specific legislators.
Although the imposter targeted multiple Congressmen and women, only one has engaged the person.
Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney (WY) was made aware of the issue and referred the matter to the . House Sergeant at Arms office.
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (IL), one of the people who received the messages, sent them to law enforcement.
“For months, we have referred these hoaxes to law enforcement, but only recently has there been a renewed interest to address the issue,” Maura Gillespie, a spokeswoman for Kinzinger, told the WSJ. “Congressman Kinzinger is eager to cooperate with law enforcement as they see fit.”
The imposter's number has been blocked from contact the White House and is being deemed a security threat.
