Al-Shabaab Takes Credit For Bombed Plane in Somalia

Terrorist group Al-Shabaab has taken credit for the bombing of a Turkish Airlines flight in Somalia last month. The bombing, which occurred 15 minutes into the flight, only killed the suicide bomber, who was sucked out the hole in the plane created by the bomb. The plane was able to land safely.

The attack was in response to Western intelligence agencies working in Somalia, and was deemed a failure by Al-Shabaab as the plane wasn't destroyed.

Most of the passengers had originally been booked on a Turkish Airlines flight but the flight was cancelled due to bad weather a few hours before take-off, Turkish Airlines said.

In its statement, al-Shabab said it had targeted Turkish Airlines because it said the Nato state was supporting Western operations in Somalia.

But the group admitted it had failed in its aim of bringing down the flight.

Twenty people have been arrested related to the bombing.

While ISIS has dominated the headlines, it's scary to remember that they are many other groups with a desire to commit acts of terror against westerners as well. Thankfully, this attack essentially failed, but it's probably not going to be their last attempt to kill innocent people.
