“The president,” according to Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), “needs to listen to the American people and say, ‘Yes, let's build a Keystone pipeline!’”
The Senate passed the bill 63-32 last month, falling just four votes shy of the two-thirds support needed to override a veto. The bill is expected to land on Obama’s desk Wednesday. He, in turn, has already vowed to employ his hackneyed pen stunt and veto the legislation.
Boehner admonished his threat on Wednesday:
“Instead of listening to people, the president is standing with a bunch of left-fringe extremists and anarchists.”
Rasmussen Reports found that 58 percent of likely voters want to move forward on the 1,179-mile pipeline. An additional 61 percent think the new venture would boost the economy, and they might be correct. According to the State Department, Keystone would create an estimated 42,000 jobs.
As Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said Wednesday morning:
"The Keystone jobs bill is just common sense. That's why this bipartisan legislation already passed the Senate with support from both parties. That's why labor unions support it."
