Former Democrat governor from Montana Brian Schweitzer is reportedly weighing a presidential run in 2016. He might, however, want to consider installing an internal filter before filing any papers to enter the race.
Take, for instance, his thoughts on southern men and Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA):
"Don't hold this against me, but I'm going to blurt it out. How do I say this ... men in the South, they are a little effeminate," he offered when I mentioned the stunning news. When I asked him what he meant, he added, "They just have effeminate mannerisms. If you were just a regular person, you turned on the TV, and you saw Eric Cantor talking, I would say—and I'm fine with gay people, that's all right—but my gaydar is 60-70 percent. But he's not, I think, so I don't know. Again, I couldn't care less. I'm accepting."
"Gaydar" is a portmanteau of "gay" and "radar" that refers to an ability to discern a man's sexual orientation.
Just putting it out there, those don't really seem like the words of someone who is "fine with gay people." It's also kind of strange that a grown man and former governor is bragging about the efficacy of his "gaydar," but I'll just leave it at that. For what it's worth, Cantor has been married to his wife Diana since 1989.
Imagine the outrage if a former Republican elected official said something as absurd and offensive as this? We'd never hear the end of it.
