Remember this moment from the 2012 campaign trail?
Well, it turns out Romney was right. Again.
According to congressional testimony given by General Joseph Dunford earlier this week, Russia is the biggest threat to the United States as President Vladimer Putin continues aggression not only in his region, but by reaching out to the enemies of the United States.
"Russia presents the biggest threat to our national security," Dunford told the Senate Armed Services Committee. "In Russia we have a nuclear power. We have one that not only has the capability to violate the sovereignty of our allies and to do things that are inconsistent with our national interests but they're in the process of doing so. If you want to talk about a nation that could pose an existential threat to the United States I have to point to Russia."
Throughout the course of nuclear negotiations (which are ongoing after multiple deadlines were missed) between the U.S. and Iran, Russia has openly cozied up to the terrorist regime. Earlier this year, Putin put 40,000 on alert for military exercises and he's also been reaching out to the Chinese, who just hacked extremely sensitive information belonging to more than 20 million Americans.
Meanwhile, the U.S. will cut an additional 40,000 Army troops by 2017.
