Video: Mia Love's Tearful and Powerful Pro-Life Speech

Following a newsworthy and divisive weekend, I thought I'd begin the week by showcasing an extraordinary speech from Friday's March for Life in Washington, which drew a gargantuan crowd. Prior to snaking their way through the capital city's arteries toward the Supreme Court, the gathered throngs cheered remarks from pro-life leaders -- including Mike Pence, who became the first sitting Vice President to address the march. Many of the comments were moving and impassioned, but one speech stood out from the others. It was delivered by Utah Congresswoman Mia Love, who instantly stole the show with her brief, powerful remarks. Tears streamed down her face as she insisted that America must refuse to accept the tragedy of "what might have been" regarding the human potential and promise that is extinguished by abortion:

"Each living child carries with him or her the potential for greatness. A child born today may become a doctor that cures cancer or Alzheimer’s. That child may be the astronaut that takes the world to Mars for a CEO that leads a global business. That child may become a friend that saves a peer from suicide or a mom who strengthens her family, volunteers and eradicate hunger, or a teacher who inspires a struggling student. Every time we kill a child through abortion, we kill our potential. Every time we kill a child, we, all of us suffer. We lose a little of ourselves and a whole lot of our future...We cannot accept what might have been."

She also wove a personal narrative through her message, describing her parents' decision in favor of life:

“Forty-one years ago that couple from Haiti could have made the choice to abort, but they didn’t. They chose life. They didn’t choose what might have been; they chose what is to come. They went and followed and fostered that life, and the future and the dreams that baby would bring. I’m certain that this couple would never have thought that that child would become the first black female Republican ever to be elected to Congress.”
