During a time when we are about to celebrate the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus the Christ, the United States Supreme Court is deliberating the possible crucifixion of the moral foundation of America.
We are entering a historical period that’s reminiscent of the book of Judges when everyone in Israel “did what was right in his own eyes.”
We have come a long way, America…the wrong way.
We have come a long way since April 19, 1775—the day after Paul Revere’s famous midnight ride—when the British redcoats, under the command of Major John Pitcairn, arrived in Lexington, Massachusetts.
There, they confronted a ragtag regiment of Minutemen, with Pitcairn demanding that they lay down their arms “in the name of George the Sovereign King of England.”
A Lexington minister by the name of Rev. Jonas Clarke was said to have responded on behalf of all the Minutemen: “We recognize no Sovereign but God and no King but Jesus.”
We have come a long way, America…. the wrong way.
We have come a long way from the following year, 1776, when the founding fathers gathered in Philadelphia to sign the Declaration of Independence. One of the signers, Samuel Adams, declared: “We have this day restored the Sovereign to whom all men ought to be obedient . . . . From the rising to the setting of the sun, let His kingdom come.”
We have come a long way, America. Sadly, we have come a long way in the wrong direction. Today, politicians and judges, aided by some misguided preachers, compete to take our country further away from the God of our founders.
We have come into an age of a sophisticated, twenty-first century idolatry—the very sin that brought God’s wrath upon His people Israel. Our idolatry is no less than in the days of Judges: “In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”
It is indeed a more sophisticated, high-tech form of idolatry—one where we worship the gods of “tolerance” and “inclusivity,” which in turn marginalize the one true God, His Word, and His moral laws. When we marginalize God and His moral principles to placate the pagan secular culture, we participate in the same idolatry of Baal and Ashtoreth that the Israelites took part in.
In this new age, our judges, politicians, and some false ministers happily support the removal of the Ten Commandments from schools and courtrooms.
They happily support the removal of nativity scenes and crosses from the public square.
They happily support the scrubbing of the name of God from our monuments and marble halls of government.
In this new age, just as in the age of Judges, we have no king and the villagers are running wild. In the name of a phantom reasoning called “unconstitutional,” we have plunged the nation halfway into the abyss.
Pray tell me, where in the constitution it says that a doctor can snuff out the life of a baby in his mother’s womb.
Pray tell me, where in the constitution it says that marriage can be between any 2 individuals regardless of gender.
We have come a long way, America….the very wrong way.
During this time of remembering Christ’s crucifixion, our country is crucifying every remaining visage of biblical morality—but just as Christ’s resurrection followed His crucifixion, let’s cry to the Lord that our nation may experience a resurrection of sorts.
A resurrection of reverence to Him and His Word once again.
