Do you feel the leaked information from a global warming alarmist organization is meaningful?

Faced with 24/7 Obamamania on the media, the 60 million Americans who did not vote for Barack Obama are wondering where we go from here. Will events turn out like 1993, when another liberal president was inaugurated with the support of big majorities in both the House of Representatives and the Senate?

Under the direction of the activist first lady, the liberals attempted a government takeover of the massive health care industry, in addition to passing new regulations and tax hikes. Bill Clinton rewarded the feminists by passing Joe Biden's nearly-billion-dollar-a-year Violence Against Women Act.

But then came the midterm elections in 1994, and liberals were abruptly reminded how conservative America really is. In a tsunami we hadn't seen since 1946, Republicans won both Houses of Congress by wide margins.

The Speaker of the House, Tom Foley, was defeated for re-election, something that hadn't happened in over a century. President Bill Clinton held onto his power because he was not yet up for re-election, and he quickly changed his stripes to govern more middle-of-the-road.

The new Congress passed the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) by big majorities, and Clinton signed it into law. DOMA protects states and the federal government against having to recognize same-sex marriages that are performed in other states.

The new Congress passed Welfare Reform to end some of the worst abuses of the system started by Lyndon Johnson's Great Society in the 1960s. After much grumbling, Clinton signed it.

The liberals never forgave Bill Clinton for signing those laws, and conservatives were never fooled by his newfound political religion. Bill signing those laws even hurt Hillary Clinton in the 2008 Democratic primary over a decade later.

People who gave Obama up to $750 million to bring about "change" surely expect something in return. But will Obama and the Democrats fulfill Obama's very expensive promises and risk what happened in the 1994 elections?

Obama's push for imposing an additional trillion dollars in debt will benefit special interests at the expense of working Americans. That translates to many thousands of dollars in new costs for the average worker at a time when we can least afford it.

Less than half of Americans support this proposal according to polls, and many view it as yet another bailout like the unpopular one for bankers last fall. Just as New Deal spending programs did nothing to lift the United States out of the Great Depression, Obama's proposed "stimulus" package will simply dig us into a deeper hole.

Obama's proposed stimulus promises to create 3 million new jobs, but even if it reached that implausible goal, the price tag would be over $300,000 per job. And would they be short-term government jobs or jobs with a future?

The proposed stimulus is not even enough for some Obama supporters, perhaps because so little of it will reach average Americans. It "falls far short" in the words of Terence O'Sullivan, general president of the Laborers' International Union.

Of course, it falls short because government spending only bleeds the taxpayers to pay for government jobs, and what we need is private industry jobs. We need the government to stop its overtaxation and micromanagement of the U.S. economy, and to stop the unfair trade agreements and foreign-government policies that invite corporations to move their manufacturing overseas.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, whose approval rating has sunk to 38 percent, may meet the same fate as the speaker of the house 16 years ago. Ramming through anti-business feminist legislation like the Lilly Ledbetter Act, which invites lawsuits against large and small companies, will hurt instead of helping job creation.

Even moderate Republicans are risking the wrath of voters. Sen. Arlen Specter is already hearing the footsteps of a primary challenge from the right.

Nearly 50 House Democrats hold seats that were Republican in 2002, and perhaps another dozen seats long held by Democrats have been trending Republican. Nearly all those Democrats have just opened themselves up to challenge by voting to expose companies to new job-ruining lawsuits.

There is only one path to economic and social prosperity: less and limited government and enforcing a level playing field for international trade. If Obama and the liberals controlling Congress repeat the Democrats' mistake of 1993, it may be, as Yogi Berra famously said, deja vu all over again.

re: Akagi
I would note that the figures you cite for US aid overseas do not include private charity. Americans may consume a lot (and I would argue that whatever the % actually is, it will go down over time as other countries increase their own prosperity, of which consumption is a sign) but Americans also provide a lot.

Also most likely not included in your figures is military support, I'm not sure. For example, while many would dismiss this, I'm rather certain US military presence in Korea has prevented a NK invasion of the South on occasion, which is certainly of great relief to South Korean citizens.

Akagi
You've commented several times about the U.S.'s use of 30% of resources--but I never see you acknowledge that the U.S. in turn generates 30% (or more) of the GWP (Gross World Product, analogous to GDP)...nor do you acknowledge the huge amount of direct and indirect foreign aid we provide--without reimbursement--to places like Bosnia, Somalia, Iraq, Korea, etc. The world would be a much poorer place without the generosity and charity of the U.S.

Your posts always seem rational and objective, with much use of facts, but your consistent failure to include the "rest of the story"--where the U.S.'s actions are put in context-- indicates that you have an anti-American agenda.

Scott
Some say 5%, some say 4%. Okay, 305,657,492/6,755,293,140=4.52471100314086439229945837702%. So roughly about 4.53%. The US and world population came from the US Census. But since I have been typing the totals will have changed some, but still about 4.53%.

As for the 30%, try this article https://www.taipeitimes.com/News/front/archives/2007/04/08 /2003355715/print

Some say 30%, Taipei Times via the AFP says 25%. Let's look at oil for example. The US consumes 20.6 million bbl a day. The world consumption is 83.6 million bbl a day. So 20.6/83.6=28.22966507177033492822966507177% or roughly 28.23%, so I underestimated the population by about .47% and for oil overestimated the usage by 1.77%. In both cases pretty close I'd say. The oil usage comes from the US Department of Energy's Energy Information Agency. The US uses the most oil of any single country. China is #2 at 7 million bbl a day and Japan at #3 at 5.35 million. Taiwan is at #18 at 970,000 per day. The data for these comes from the CIA.

Happy now?

Wanjiru
So until the 'world' can live 'without our AID'...

The US is dead last among OCED countries at .016% of GDP--tied with Greece. It (and most others) have never come close to the .7% of GDP it promised in 1970 when it signed on to UN Resolution 2626 (October 24, 1970) in which it (and the rest of them) agreed to rach the .7% of ODA by 1975. The ones that have are as follows: Norway .95% Sweden .93%, Luxembourg .90% Denmark and the Netherlands .81%.

Of the countries that do get US ODA most are due to US interests either in the country itself or some policy it wishes to pursue. Most US ODA goes to just four countries--Iraq; Israel; Egypt; and Afghanistan. Other countries like Bolivia, Peru and Colombia the ODA is aimed at anti-drug efforts--a key US policy goal.

I also think you misread me. I am not complaining about the 30%. I am just stating what Obama meant and he is right. The world is not simply going to let the US continue forever to gobble up resources at 30%--many of those want to live like Americans too--Chinese want cars, big screen TVS and jet around all over the world too. As China and India and others continue to grow there will be a scramble for these resources. The run up in prices in gas last year was caused in part as I said due to China and India's economic boom--which due to the worldwide slowdown has eased, but this pause will not last forever. In 1992, a book called The Coming War with Japan" argued that Japan and US would eventually find themselves in war over many of the same reasons that caused the first one--raw materials. The same thesis could be applied to China.

Ms. Schlafly, you keep on......
being correct on all your issues. I couldn't agree with you more.

More than anything today, Inauguration Day, the continued slander of President Bush TO HIS FACE in the inauguration speech appalls sensibilities. Obama told all, earlier, that he wrote the bulk of the speech.

After having read about the frat-party ambiance in the White House after the Clintons took residence, it appears we are in for another low blow to White House decorum. This was made apparent not only by the tenor of the speech, but also by the tenor of the crowd and also by the picture of Rahm Emanuel thumbing his nose at ????.......and if the Democrats ranting and raving and disparaging of each other that has taken place since the new prez was elected is any barometer, we may not have long to wait for the election of conservative voices.

Akagi - what does the US give to UN?
25% of the UN's budget comes from the US.
90% of the foreign aid to arab nations including palestine, Egypt, Iraq etc comes from the USA.
When the world says 'they don't want the USA to continue consuming as much as they are consuming - we should not listen, unless, the world is ready to stop receiving our AID.

Fair is fair, the man who has the money makes the rules - and that goes for EVERYTHING. So until the 'world' can live 'without our AID' it is in no bargaining position to tell us what we can and what we can not do.

'nough said'!

Good bye USA, hello USSA
Unlike any other president Barak Hussein Obama is an investment for foreigners who funded him and want the USA to have a 'more humble' role in the UN and other global efforts. This means, unlike Clintons who just wanted power, Obama and his funders want pay back, and historic measures of 'fundamental' change where 'whitey' is no longer experiencing 'institutional privileges' and Russia, China, Venezuela, Cuba et al. are setting the global agenda.
Good Bye USA, Hello USSA!

When talking about akagi in the third person wouldn't be better to refer to IT instead on he/she? MY mother always said I could play with the slow kid in the area but I shouldn't make fun of them it wasn't their fault!!!!

Don't Expect 1994....
...for the following reasons:

- despite having 41 senate seats, Republicans still have more seats to defend in 2010 (19) than Dems (15).

- The GOP so far has shown no signs of returning to conservative principles. As long as RINOs are running it look for continued failure.

- In 1994, Dems had control of the House for 50+ yrs. They have only had control for a few years now.

- The activism in the MSM is stunning, far beyond what it was in 1994. We've gone from reporting the basic facts, with spin to entirely ingnoring stories that are inconvenient to those with a (D) next to their names.

- Even if Republicans make a comeback, look for 2 (or more) terms from the Messiah - while there have been one term presidents, the party has always served two+ terms since 1896 with one exception: Carter.

In 1993, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and soon to be Texas were not demographically becoming out of reach. The simple fact is that most immigrants (legal or otherwise) support the Democratic party. That cannot change anytime soon. Republican pandering (like saying after Jindal had only been governor for 3 months that he was a "great" governor) will not work. The Karl Rove strategy (as was seen at the 2000 convention with Ricky Martin singing) may get you 30 or maybe 40 percent of the "Hispanic" vote, but that still is way under 50%.

America has lost political parties before. The Federalist Party was gone by about 1825, the Whig party was gone by about 1850.

This happened in about 1920 in Great Britain as well -- the Liberal party was forever relegated to a "third party" while Labour became the left-wing party.

In America, between 1932 and 1944 a case could be made that Republicans were not really much of a national factor.

There are some good Democrats (at least as far as the issues I care about are concerned) -- guys like Jim Webb or Tim Holden are much better than Chris Shays or Rudy Guiliani on my issues.

The message I would give is ditch the party.

"How far back does one have to back-peddle before you figure out he/she might be, if not a fake, at the very least, LESS THAN HONEST??"

Speaking of honest, how long did it take you
to make up this interview?

Hey Anne
Are you the same character that I used to see on
this website about a year or two ago, who was
always flirting with guys with cowboy names,
and you always complained how hard you worked to earn your money and you resented that your
tax dollars were going to the lazy and uneducated, and I always wondered just hard you
could work when you posted 24/7. Are you that
person?

Congratulations President Obama ...
Best wishes to you and your family ...

Akagi
Where did you get the US 4% of the world population and consumes 30% of the resources numbers?

YEA AKAGI
Anne is divorced, which really means nothing to me. She just brings out the worst in me and I regret sinking to her level, but beating her at her own game can be fun. I've never initiated dialogue with her while posting on this site, but when she calls me out, IT'S ON LIKE A POT OF....., well, you know.

OLBERMANN ROCKS.

Oh and Anne
The NAU is a complete farce.

http://americas.irc-online.org/am/5023

P.s. Shouldn't you be in hiding. In the old Stalin days they would usually take away threats to the regime in the late evening hours. I'd sleep in my clothes if I were you.

Renny
"There, he is speaking to a young crowd and telling them that they will not be able to eat or drink or drive a car they want or set their household temperatures where they wish."

Not exactly. He said as I said in the posts above this "We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK...That's not leadership. That's not going to happen." He is saying that other countries aren't going to tolerate forever the large amounts of energy and resources the US consumes. Part of the gas price surge this summer was due to China snapping up all the oil it could lay its hands on. The slumping Chinese economy has halted this--for now--but this won't always be the case--China's economy will rebound and so will its demand for oil and other resources and back to the oil buying binge it was on and more high prices for the US.

The US is 4% of the world's population but consumes 30% of its resources--this can't last forever that is all he is saying. Is China going to sit back and live as a developing nation forever so the US can keep consuming at 30%? The answer is no.

Anne
I am sure many here aren't impressed after all many here are dumb as dirt and think Japan wasn't occupied from 1945-1952 (and some parts for far longer) and that Obama is going to send the army out for them. Remind you of anyone you know?

Spoiled Asian? Again, assuming those facts not in evidence.

So Darcie:

Anne was divorced? That figures. But I would have thought he husband would have taken poison. Reminds me of the exchange between Lady Nancy Astor and Churchill in which she told him "Winston, if you were my husband, I'd poison your tea." And he replied "Nancy, if I were your husband, I'd drink it."

The Coronation is complete
What an underwhelming event! Obama's speech was uninspiring, lame even, full of empty rhetoric. Not even as good as his stump speeches.

Was that poetry? Sounded more like gobble-dee-gook, written by a slow sixth grader.

And the prayer was insulting and stupid. Rev. Wright could have insulted us much better and got the crowd revved up too.

I doubt this infatuation with Obama will end any time soon. These idiots would line up around the block to buy a gram of their massiah's freeze dried excrement for $1000, and then walk away gushing, "Isn't it wonderful? His sh!t doesn't stink!"

Obama and your private life
You can see and hear O on HamNation: Obama on your shoulder. There, he is speaking to a young crowd and telling them that they will not be able to eat or drink or drive a car they want or set their household temperatures where they wish. And they all applaud him.
If a Rep. said that, the NYT would have a banner headline: FASCIST REPUBLICAN THREATENS FREE CHOICE IN PERSONAL LIVES.

We should remember Hitler's Nazis party actually was the National Socialist Party.

ANNIE, GROWNUPS ARE TALKING.
Anne, you may not remember me. After all, it has been a while. About a year ago, during a discussion in which you were lambasting homosexuals and gay marriage, I challenged you to comment on what you thought God would think of the adulterous lifestyle (being divorced and remarried) that you're engaged in. If you'll recall, you cried and whined like a newborn. It's too hot in my kitchen Annie. You've already proven you can't take the heat. You should probably direct your infantile, incoherent angst elsewhere. After all, I will engage, and I most likely will enjoy it. Ta-ta sweetheart.

OLBERMANN ROCKS.

Jennifer: I'm sure by now that you've

figured out that ol' akagi is far more impressed with him/herself than anyone else is impressed with him/her.

akagi just happens to be one arrogant, pompous, spoiled asian.

He/she can't stand it when he/she has been shown up.

In fact, you and Ret Geek and many other Conservatives are absolutely SPOT ON about Marxism and Obama's Marxist-Communist leanings.

Hell, Marxist Obama will have us on the fast track to Marxism by noon on Friday.

Most pretty much ignore ol' akagi, unless things are slow, and then they'll toy with him/her a bit... Doesn't take much to get him/her riled. :-)

Jennifer
Bush started a senseless war leading to the death of roughly 4000 service people, not to mention tens of thousands of Iraqis, bungled hurricane Katrina (heck of a job, Brownie), and damaged our international status before liberals sipped the hateorade. OBAMA WAS JUST SWORN IN TODAY!!!!!

Sorry to shout, but I'll make a deal. If Obama seeks to regulate your thermostat thru legislation or take away your free speech, we'll go after him together. I'll lead the way. Deal?

OLBERMANN ROCKS.

Pistol
You confuse me with Taft. I never said I'd drop Obama, because I never supported him to start with. I was with Barr. I hoped McCain would win, but knew he was going to lose once Lehman Brothers failed in mid-September. After the GOP convention closed on September 4 and he went ahead of Obama, I though he had maybe a 50-50 shot at winning. But two weeks later, it was over. He dropped below 50% and he never recovered. Hail President Obama.

Also note conservative sites also censor, delete posts and ban users--Free Republic. But so do left wing loon sites like Democraticunderground. Their rules include these gems: "Democratic Underground is an online community for Democrats and other progressives. Members are expected to be generally supportive of progressive ideals, and to support Democratic candidates for political office. We ban conservative disruptors who are opposed to the broad goals of this website. If you think overall that George W. Bush is doing a swell job, or if you wish to see Republicans win, or if you are generally supportive of conservative ideals, please do not register to post, as you will likely be banned."

This is a good one too:

"If you do not like Democratic Underground, or the members of Democratic Underground, or the way we run Democratic Underground, then we strongly suggest that you exercise your right to leave. If we decide that you do not like this place very much, then we reserve the right to show you the door ourselves."

How "progressive" of them.

Oh Darice: You've got to do better than

that! Pa-lease....

A "callous disregard for people with with opposing viewpoints..."

Exactly what callous disregard have you experienced for your opposing view?

None! Zip! Zero! Nada! Zilch!

You're still here. Any moderate or slightly Conservative post on either Puff-Ho or kos are ripped down in seconds.

You keep giving your lack of intellect away every time you post "Olbermoron Rocks."

Pa-lease!!!

And then there's Cass Sunstein...
The most outrageous Obama appointee just might be Cass Sunstein, a Harvard Law School professor who's flying under everyone's radar and into a job that hardly anyone has ever heard of.

Cass Sunstein is slated to run the White House's Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs.

He's going to be America's chief "regulatory czar." And shocking new research from the Center for Consumer Freedom shows that he's a dedicated animal-rights zealot.

The anti-meat nuts at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and the anti-hunting lobbyists at the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) used to think that putting Dennis Kucinich in the White House would be their best hope of wielding real power in Washington .

But even they didn't see Cass Sunstein coming. Sunstein has the legal mind of Chief Justice John Roberts and the animal-rights agenda of PETA president Ingrid Newkirk.

Not talking about animal welfare---the idea of making sure we don't cause animals unnecessary suffering when we use them for food, clothing, entertainment, or lifesaving medical research.

Sunstein believes in animal rights---the notion that people shouldn't "own" or "use" animals at all, for any purpose, no matter what the stakes are for mankind.

Cancer research? Not if lab rats are used against their will.

Hunting? Absolutely forbidden, especially if it's for sport.

Seeing-eye dogs? They're nothing more than slaves.

And that T-bone steak? Fuhgeddaboudit! If animals have any "rights" at all, the right to not be your dinner is at the top of the list.

All of this makes perfect sense to Cass Sunstein, who organized the "Chicago Project on Animal Treatment Principles" at the University of Chicago.

He will soon have the political authority to push for a radical overhaul of the way the federal government regulates everything Americans do with animals.

Pistol
I've been on the Huffington Post once, and it mirrors townhall in its callous disregard for people with with opposing viewpoints. Only difference is that venom is spewed at those on the right, or conservative, side of the politcal landscape.

Inner city residents need representation too. And while a career politician, you must admire him for independently climbing that ladder instead of riding the backs of distinguished relatives the way Mitt Romney, Joseph Biden, Hillary Clinton, George W. Bush, John McCain, and other presidential candidates have.

And while his charming persona helps, his complete grasp of the issues (even though you may not agree with his conclusions) is refreshing. Being African-American (or black), today was an emotional day for me. But I won't cut Obama any slack.

If he succeeds I'm happy because out country succeeds. If he fails..., well, when a black man can screw up the country the way some white men have (Herbert Hoover, Jimmy Carter, George W. Bush) and we simply move on to the next election, we'll then have true equality. I will rejoice in that.

OLBERMANN ROCKS.

Jennifer: What Bozo Obama did say was...

"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK."

Spinnin'
"...caused conservatives to 'lose a turn'."

And the lefties' spin will land smack dab on "Bankrupt".

Jennifer
There is always talk of getting rid of the 22nd. They talked about it during Esienhower (it was passed in the Congress in 1947 by the GOP who didn't want to see 16 years of a single president again after FDR (he served only 12--dying a few weeks from the start of his fourth term)and then they got snakebit as Truman almost as unpopular as you can be decided not to seek a third term (as he was allowed under the 22nd even though it had been ratified the year before in 1951) and Ike got 8 years but couldn't run for four more.

Then there was talk of it in 1988 with Reagan and then in 1992 with Clinton and briefly in 2006 or so about Bush. If Obama wins in 2012 (as I expect he will) I am sure there will be talk about it then too. It WILL NEVER HAPPEN. You know why? Because every US Senator sees himself as a future president and no term limits makes those prospects dimmer as people can run for 4, 5 and 6 terms. Bill Clinton could be now on his 5th term and easily serve three or four after that (after 8 terms he would be as old as Reagan was when he left office in 1989).

Arlen Specter summed the feeling of Congress on the issue quite well a few years ago when asked about it. He said there was no support for this and "8 years is enough for anybody".

Bush "hateorade"
I know, it's OK to drink Bush "hateorade" but not Obama "hateorade"

I'll keep on talking and writing until my free speech is taken away (yeah, I know, there I go being paranoid again)

Socialism
Socialism is actually a type of oligarchy. An oligarchy is a type of government ruled by a small group of people (who consider themselves as elite). The wealthy consider themselves elite and take control of all ownership of everything including the people. The people are then given a basic wage, regardless of what they do. Of course they also see that the people must pay a tax since it is important that any government tax people. The people work where told, live where told, and do what told. In return they purchase what the government thinks they need (that's why they are paid a wage) providing a way to dispose of the goods produced and transfer more wealth to the wealthy. The wealthy also insure no one else becomes wealthy.

Frankly, I don't like it. And neither will the people now on Welfare since people who do not work do not produce wealth for the wealthy. We might actually see some of them working for once. But without incintative to do better, production drops and no one cares any more.

Darice of 4:29
You compliment Akagi for sticking to issues here on a conservative site. I'm curious. Do they stick to issues on the liberal sites? What are they like? I tried once or twice to get on one, but couldn't get through the door.

The good thing about Obama is the feeling of being included he must raise in the minds of folks like the Tuskegee Airmen, the high percentage of black men and women in the Armed Forces. I was talking briefly with the only black member of my fatherinlaw's Pearl Harbor Survivor chapter. He was guarded on the election. I'm not sure why. He didn't know me all that well, and who needs trouble? The downside is that he is a black activist inner city career politician. their record in places of executive power is not good. You mention he was elected on the economy, his charm and charisma. All too true, and hardly reassuring. Well, we'll see. For now, enjoy the moment. Akagi said if Obama screws up, he will drop him in a second. I say if he does even a decent job in this mess, i'll vote for him in 2012 myself. I did not vote for him, but not for McCain either. I think 60 years of foolish policy, deficit spending and irresponsible legislators pandering to our lowest vices have created too big of a mess for presidential policy to cure any time soon. I hope Obama proves me wrong.

Keith and Crack
In an ironic way, it's disappointing that certain delusioned posters on townhall aren't smoking crack. That would at least explain their paranoia surrounding thermostat regulation, the overturning of the 22nd amendment, and the government "taking our guns". Then again, maybe they've sipped too much Obama "hateorade". It must be a potent drug.

OLBERMANN ROCKS (AND MAYBE SMOKES CRACK).

Wake up
Don't forget Paulson also said Americans wouldn't mind bailing out FOREIGN banks as well.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0908/13690.html

Obama (who I didn't support) said nothing about regulating thermostats. His quote was "We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK...That's not leadership.

Now California did have a proposal so it could control your thermostat as well as other appliances in an event of an emergency. That had nothing to do with Obama. I also saw nothing that this propsal passed as it generated much outrage when it came out a year ago.

"A New Age"
"The conspiracy facts are that Elite inner circle members of the Bilderbergs (BB), Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), and Trilateral Commission (TC) are conspiring to politically and economically dominate the entire world under their New World Order, more recently called Globalization, or Global Union, Global Economy, Global Order, Global Environment, and like terms. When President G.H.W. Bush used the term New World Order in several of his speeches, it aroused suspicion and concern among the public. So, the Elite selected a generic term "Globalization" to use, and now Americans are no longer alarmed, because the business world uses this term daily, so it must not be so frightening. But, you cannot change a tiger's stripes. We're still talking about the New World Order."

That wasn't my point. My point was to argue Taft's assertion that blacks sat down by and large and decided--which one is best, McCain or Obama, McCain or Obama. Once it was clear he could win--after Iowa--they rode to his banner. I am not saying anything is wrong with that, just that what it was. But on the converse, whites don't do the same thing. If whites voted for McCain 93-7 or 97-3 or even 88-12, we would be talking about President McCain today.

I have no loyality to any party (in the US). I tend to be a LP supporter, and next in line is the GOP. Rarely support DP members. I find though that there are crazies both on the right and on the left. I am fair. But that makes me here--a liberal, a communist, a plant by the DPRK and/or the PRC, and an enemy of the US. I have been called all of these at one point or another. As well as stupid, clueless, idiot and a host of other names (mostly by Anne and some of her pals). I think it was my friend Anne who said she turned my name over to her friend at the CIA. You see how afraid I am at that news.

Keith Olbermann...
AND...anyone who is worshipping at the altar of Keith Olbermann is SMOKING CRACK...talk about the lunatic fringe...a sportscaster turned political science genius??? Yeah, right...

Delusional...
I know where the lunatic fringe is and it's not on this website, except for when people like Akagi post. They've already talked about regulating thermostats, did you know that? Do you understand how wrong that is? Nope, I guess not. There's also a movement afoot to throw out the 22nd Amendment so he and those of his ilk can be "presidents" for life. I guess I shouldn't worry about fighting against that either. It's OK. Everything's OK. Obama is here. Just sit back and let the government wipe your nose. Everything is OK.

Akaqi
Your middle middle of the road, sensible approach is refreshing on political sites like townhall. Fanatics on both sides are the biggest detriment to honest politics and holding politicians accountable. I appreciate you loyalty to values, not political parties.

AND ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING. (maybe)

P. S. Akaqi, I hope my sign-off (O.R.) doesn't render me a hypocrit in your eyes.

I am reading along going ya, ya up until the stuff after the comma. What unfair trade agreements? And how in the hell can we stop foreign government policies that attract corporations besides military force or a trade protectionist war which you always advocate. Wouldn't it be better to create a more attractive environment for jobs here? If foreign governments become more attractive places to work, invest, create wealth, then I will be in the vanguard of the move over there rather than a crying in my porridge socialist here. Give up on economic force. It can't work in the long run. You can lead a horse to water but.

Akaqi
According to the polls I've seen, it was 93-7, but I don't want to squabble over a few percentage points. But to answer your question, race may have had a lot to do with it. Had Mitt Romney been the republican nominee, don't you think he'd receive more support from Mormons than traditionally given to non-Mormon candidates? The same goes for Hillary and women. It's only natural to receive a spike from the constituency with which you share certain characteristics.

Now, don't you think it's disingenuous to question the motives of black voters when Obama received broad support from all over the political spectrum?

Darcie
Blacks voted for Kerry 88% to 12%, but in 2008, it went from 88-12 to 97-3. You think that uptick wasn't because of his color?

Oh they get it Jennifer
The last eight years have opened the public's eys to the fact that wealth re-distribution works both ways.

Trillion dollar give-a-ways to Wall Street bankers, corporate welfare in the form of subsidies, payroll tax exemptions for high earners, special tax rates for the earnings of hedge fund operators, all while executive earnings soared, and the earnings of the middle class remained stagnant.

Thankfully, last November the public finally got tired of being trickled down on.

Jennifer
"They don't know what socialism/marxism is."

Yes and most "conservatives" seem not to understand the concept either. Perhaps you and they should go and take a course in modern ideologies which cover Marxism and socialism. I am pretty sure your political science department will have a course on the subject.

As for history, I wouldn't use Anne as a reference since she thinks that Japan and Germany was never occupied by the US. But we won't have to bother with her much longer. Obama is going to send the army after her and deal with her once and for all. How do I know this? She told me.

"Maybe then you will understand the true meaning of socialism..."

Does Sweden do this?

How about China? You can fill up your tank and drive as long as you can afford the gas. Crank up the thermostat too. Unlike the US, China doesn't tell its citizens what lightbulbs they must buy either.

I don't use the central heat in my house much anyway. So he can control that all he wants really since it doesn't have all that much effect on me. Actually, I'd be upset over that even if it has no direct impact on me. But not going to happen. That is why KO called this place a lunatic fringe website.

Tell me how a union of a 100% Luo man and a 100% white woman makes him 40% Arab? You aware that the Luo aren't Arab? 100% Luo+100% Euro-American+0% Arab=50% Luo and 50% Euro-American. Since Americans aren't so up on African tribes, that makes him 50% African and 50% Euro-American. I call him so-called African-American because the term in the US doesn't mean African+American, it means a black person with no connection to Africa at all while a white person born in Zambia would be Not an African-American. If African-America really meant African-American, you could make this claim I suppose for Obama.

Anne...

Come on brother. Blacks traditionally vote democratic in the 90 percentile range. John Kerry got 88 percent of the black vote. Barack Obama received 93 percent. Now I ask you, if blacks vote the democratic ticket, and Obama is the democratic nominee, why shouldn't they vote for him?

Furthermore, Northeastern states with a minimal black population (Vermont, New Hampshire, etc..) overwhelmingly went for Obama. In a nation comprised of a 12% African-American population, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that Obama won because WHITE PEOPLE (and Hispanics) VOTED FOR HIM.

Also, John Hagee, Pat Robertson, and Jerry Falwell have histories of supporting conservative candidates from the pulpit. Catholic priests have advocated denial of communion to pro-choice candidates and stated that catholics who vote for them confess before receiving communion. If you haven't noticed politics in white churches, you simply haven't been looking.

Finally, you state: "Ask you average Obama voter to detail his economic plan and contrast it to McCain's". I'll bet the 23% of "informed" Texas voters who believe Obama is a Muslim and probably supported McCain could do this in a heartbeat. The statement concerning contrasting economic policies was a red herring and doesn't advance your argument. I think you're better than that.

OLBERMANN ROCKS.

Akagi - Obama is triracial
" How is he triracial? African+Euro-American=2 as far as I can count. Let me guess, Muslim?"

He's 50% white, 40-something % Arab, and @6% black.

Socialism
How many really get it?

"Socialism is usually defined as gov ownership and/or control over the basic means of production and distribution of goods and services. When analyzed this means gov control over everything, including you. All controls are “people” controls. If the gov controls these areas it can eventually do just exactly as Marx set out to do- destroy the right to private property, eliminate the family and wipe out religion….

The idea that socialism is a share-the-wealth program is strictly a CONFIDENCE GAME to get the people to surrender their freedom to an all-powerful collectivist gov. While the Insiders tell us we are building a paradise on earth, we are actually constructing a jail for ourselves." Gary Allen

`````````
"But would some of the richest men in the world financially back communism, the system that was openly vowing to destroy the so called capitalism that made them wealthy? Communism, like plutocracy, is a product of capitalism. Researcher Gary Allen explained it was this way:
"If one understands that socialism is not a share-the-wealth program, but is in reality a method to consolidate and control the wealth, then the seeming paradox of super-rich men promoting socialism becomes no paradox at all. Instead, it becomes logical, even the perfect tool for power-seeking megalomaniacs. Communism or more accurately, SOCIALISM, is not a movement of the downtrodden masses, but of the economic elite."
Anne
We have all kinds, on both sides, some just voted for "Lizard People." I have little doubt that Obama was a better pick than McPalin.
Jennifer #108: You are, unfortunately,
Bozo has already said, we're ALL going to have some "skin in the game" and it didn't appear that he mean voluntarily.
Cass Sunstein, whom will be named the new "regulatory" czar... who will no doubt extend the "Censorship Doctrine" to include the internet.
(And I accept the apologies of all those who said I was being ridiculous when I predicted that would happen.)
And, I wouldn't be surprised if, we'll all be forced to become veggies once Sunstein in HIS place of power.
In Oregon they're already talking about ways to tax people on the AMOUNT OF MILES they drive each year.
We're bypassing "socialism" and going directly to Marxism, and it isn't that we haven't warned them.
Just remember the words, "SOCIAL ENGINEERING!"
Reality
Both parties are owned by the establishment. Bush was a scumbag traitor who was working for the destruction of our country and the New World Order. He has held summits on integration the last 4 yrs under SPP. Obama will deliver the death blow. Did anyone catch Biden's speech where he said something was going to happen in 6 mos and they would need them all to be with them?
Whatever the precipitating event is, we will be told the NAU/socialism is the answer. Many will believe it. The godless will gladly follow him over the cliff. He WILL usher in a new age which will culminate with the Tribulation. None of this would have gotten so far if the church wasn't half dead. (BTW Rick Warren is CFR and plans are for a world religion.)
The only thing holding back evil on the earth is the presence of the church. We already know how this story is going to end.
``````````
"The chief problem of American political life for a long time has been how to make the two congressional parties more national and international. The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea acceptable only to the doctrinaire and academic thinkers. Instead the two parties should be almost identical, so the that American people can 'throw the rascals out' at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy."
- Carroll Quigley, member of Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), mentor to Bill Clinton, quote from Tragedy and Hope, 1966

More facts. The fact is most blacks voted for Obama because he in their mind was black (again how a person 50% white=100% black is beyond me). They had no clue of his policies, positions, nothing. A t-shirt I saw at an Atlanta area tourist attraction--Stone Mtn--which read "He's black and I'm proud." What if someone had a picture of McCain on a t-shirt that said, He's white and I'm proud?" At the same time and place, saw blacks who were having their family reunions having shirts that on one side printed "Smith Family Reunion" and the other Obama 2008. I drove past a black church today. It said Congrats, President-elect Obama. I don't recall seeing similar words offered to Bush in 2000 or 2004. If McCain had won, I am betting you wouldn't have seen those words toward McCain.

Blacks by in large didn't vote for Obama because they thought he was the best man, they voted for him because he was black. If you think this. Ask you average Obama voter to detail his economic plan and contrast it to McCain's. This was pure racial politics. That is why I said blacks in regards to the GOP are a lost cause and the GOP should simply write them off.

There was a poll in 1/18/09 Washington
Post asking people do you have a favorable impression of the incoming President.

Obama – 79%

The same kind of poll showed previous president's favorable rating when they were inaugurated....

Bush – 62%
Clinton – 68%
Bush Sr – 65%
Reagan – 58%
Carter – 78%

And look how great Carter turned out to be and how great Reagan did. Obama shouldn't be comforted by those numbers.

Synopsis!
"Who are you going to vote for?"

"Obama"

"Why..."

"Because I like what he stands for."

"So, you like Obama's idea on restricting stem cell research?

"Yeah. I agree with Obama on that."

"And what about staying in Iraq until the job is done?

"Yeah. I agree with Obama, I think we should stay in Iraq and get the job done."

"And what about Obama being pro-life?"

"Yeah, I agree with Obama on being pro-life."

"And what do you think about Obama having Palin as his VP pick? You don't have any problem with that?

"No. I think that's fine. I have no problem with Palin being Obama's VP."

"I can say for myself, if he shows himself to be a fake, I'll drop my support like a brick."

How far back does one have to back-peddle before you figure out he/she might be, if not a fake, at the very least, LESS THAN HONEST??

Since Anne claims that Obama will be sending the army to get her sooner or later, I wonder why she is still posting? Isn't boarding a plane right about now or going into hiding a wiser choice of action? I mean who knows what was in those executive orders of his.

"Executive order #9513"

"Find that treasonous Anne person on TH and send her to Camp McCain. See EO #9512."

"Executive Order #9512"

Camp McCain located near Grenda, Mississippi is to be re-opened as a re-education camp for wayward, treasonous so-called conservatives and used to get their minds back right.

I actually have no idea how they number these things really--just a WAG on my part as the numbers.

In case anyone was curious, Camp McCain was one of several POW camps for German POWs located in the US. I would have said Tule Lake, but Anne gets all nutty if you mention Japan or anything to do with Japan. Tule Lake being an infamous Japanese internment camp located at Tule Lake, California.

PHYLLIS HASN'T A CLUE
Overly partisan pundits like Mrs. Schlafly (they're also on the left} damage their party by continually ignoring the gigantic elephant in the room.

1st, the right wing social-fearmongering was effective in 1994 because of relative peace and prosperity, but in a climate where an unpopular war has taken center stage, republicans must find a new tactic.

2nd, to insinuate Hillary's health care debacle cost her the democratic nomination (where voters are primarily liberal to left of center) makes no sense. Obama and Clinton's views are basically identical concerning health care. Why not be honest? Mrs. Schlafly knows that Clinton's initial support for the Iraq war caused her the nomination. Maybe Phyllis's support for the war makes her blind to this fact.

Obama's political acumen, charm, and charisma, coupled with the failed policies of the Bush administration, are the reasons Barack Obama is now our president (it felt good typing that). Conservatives, look within, or you'll be out of power for a long time.

It is so important
that Republican Representatives know the Conservative media is reporting to us everything they do. If any Republican signs on to Big Government, Abortion Industry support or Homosexual Marriage then we the Conservative Americans need to know. Voting records must be kept. Do not send money to the Party. Instead support individual candidates that you are certain are Conservative not just really nice guys and gals or electable fools. Our party has been infiltrated by socialists , they call themselves moderates(example: THe Schwartz) It's time to make sure our Republican Candidates are lean and mean and courageous. Duncan D Hunter for example has just been elected and will serve well the state of California in the U.S. House of Reps. We need more like him. His father must be very proud.

Taft
With whom should I mingle? BHO supporters are all nice? I know many, and some are nice and some are vindictive, while others have become arrogant.

Perhaps the left coast population is just more enlightened than us crude and backwards Southerners who still believe in Life and Liberty.

re: Akagi
I would hope that nobody in Canada, or elsewhere, would want a US-type health care system. We basically have the worst of both worlds -- enough government control that free market competition doesn't exist to a level that would promote greater efficiency, innovation, and cost savings, yet just enough "private sector" so that a government "solution" can be proposed as a fix.

The HMOs that so many people use are really no better than government health care -- bureaucrats make decisions, they just sit in offices in NYC rather than DC. HMOs are a government invention that probably would never come to pass in a more free market system.

The way to go is to move towards more individual choice and less government mandate. Health savings accounts coupled with true insurance against catastrophic costs is the way to go.

Akagi
Thanks. That 90% rate is startling.

"BTW - if CA has a secret ballot how does she know anu blacks actually did vote against Prop. 8?"

Exit polls and pre-election polls. Outside of Hispanics, blacks have been the most anti-gay marriage. In 2004, anti-gay measures helped Kerry (but not enough to win the presidency). Bush in States in 2004 that had anti-gay marriage/civil union measures on the ballot did worse than he did in those states in 2000. This was not the case in states that did not have the measures. The explaination is that blacks came out in larger numbers of to approve the measures. Voted for the anti-gay marriage measures and then voted for Kerry.

I am not a conservative, but all this day is is the peaceful transfer of power from the head of the Executive Branch of the US Federal Government to another. Something has has been done every time since March of 1797. I don't see the election of a biracial (who is erroneously called an African-American) man all that great. Who cares? I don't. What is important is how he governs not how much melanin he has in his skin. Wasn't that the main concept in MLK's "I have a Dream" speech?

As for historic, well it is the first time the US has elected someone who wasn't 100% white and now has elected someone who is only 50% white (and for the media magically became 100% black). I guess that is historic to some. I don't find it all that important or noteworthy.

I am sure there was the first time a president was elected who had green eyes or red hair (wasn't that Jefferson?) but I don't find that important either. I don't care what he looks like. I care what his policies will be.

"Why is "taking to the streets" wrong?"

These people should be forced to emigrate to the soviet union where they will be more comfortable with other totalitarians that hate freedom!!!"

And then we have this little gem she offered regarding blacks who opposed Prop. 8.

"They showed themselves every inch as bigoted and ignorant as their white christian right wing counterpartners who voted for mccain-palin and bush-cheney."

BTW - if CA has a secret ballot how does she know anu blacks actually did vote against Prop. 8?

I don't want us eating rodents. My point was I am not dependent on government or anyone else. I think it is better to suffer in the short-term and keep our remaining freedoms then slide into tyranny out of fear. I am inspired by the people who settled this country -- every time I think it is too cold to do something, or I am tired and don't want to do something I should, etc. I onnce lived a Winter without heat thinking of our brave ancestors. People crossed this country on foot, in wagon, and by horse in blizzards etc. They faced hardship and deprivation that few if any modern Americans can comprehend and what did they do? They did not look to the government they did it themselves. I am horrified that our country now produces peope who expect their every care and concern to be taken care of by someone else.

And the answer is
To answer one of the questions posed in the article, "will Obama and the Democrats fulfill Obama's very expensive promises and risk what happened in the 1994 elections?" You can count on it. Not only that, they will double down on the number.

The Dems are alread overreaching in their lust for power and control. It will put them at risk in 2010. If RINO Republicans are complicit in this pending disaster, it won't be just Specter that will be hearing footsteps.

Today, I am responsible for my thoughts, words and deeds. If, in spite of this knowledge, I screw up, even royally as I've done in the past--I will make amends. I will apologize and then correct it, make the appropriate amends...and start over again even stronger than before.

NO EXCUSES

Tammy you have no idea !!
I lived in Scotland for 3 years and saw the health care in the UK first hand,it doesn't work like you think in fact in doesn't work. MRS Paddy,thanks for making my day I enjoyed your writing !!!! I intend to just sit back & wait for the bubble to burst,there is nothing I can do except to prepare & pray,I'm one of those poor white people who do their clinging thing!!!!

Wrong Agenda All Over Again
We the people are supposed to guide our own destiny with interest and active participation in the politics of the country. Prudence and a conservative stance are required. We vote for politicians who do our bidding not the other way around and a sense of entitlement at the expense of others is not a consideration. “Keeping our powder dry” for future emergencies is essential; another words a healthy reserve in economic and military might is necessary. We the people are doing none of these things and we make ourselves very vulnerable to our enemies and we are mortgaging our futures on borrowed moneys that we don’t control. It’s time to get our internal house in order. Get back to basics like balanced budgets and fiscal responsibility in our own homes and in government. Secure our borders, throw all the blood-sucking vermin out of the country, bring back the manufacturing base, bring our military home, and restrain our diplomatic efforts to a minimum…we are not the world’s policeman and it just invites more animosity from all the deranged but envious mobs outside our borders. We have to stop the hemorrhaging of all that is dear to this nation starting with ourselves and demanding accountability and restraint from the political office holders. That is a nation of strength; the one we have now is an obese Baby Huey waiting to be knocked over with a feather

Well Akagi
I'm still going to hope for way higher interest rates. I also think it would be best longterm if the economy gets worse. I don't want to live in a country with higher taxes every year and the electorate voting for it. Although given that soon over 50% of Americans will be paying no taxes that is probably coming either way.

Hopefully they will overreach and go after guns with that 75% tax they are talking about. Or better still demanding registration and mental health exams for all gun owners. We desperately need to wake Americans up before we lose what little freedoms we have left.

IF THE GOP KEEPS NOMINATING DINOSAURS

.....Then we will soon have a one Party system in this Country ...even I couldn't vote for McCain .....COLOSSUS

I see the thread has been contaminated
By the wacko's like akagi and bryce

will
I don't think you really want the conservatives of this country taking to the streets and emulating the Founders. By the time we get angry enough, and have exhausting all peaceful means of resistance, the country will be past the point of no return. And silly little protest marches won't cut it.

Be careful what you wish for Will you just might get it.

Akagi
Wow bud, you definitely brought your 'A' game today. Great posts!

Writ'r-MOM
Actually, I'm surprised at Schafly. This is the second article she had writen in the last week that DOES NOT MENTION Palin anywhere!!

Amazing since she had only run down Palin for the last year.

The English Health Care Program
When Hillary first came up with her Health Care Proposal, I had a boss that had just come from England. She stated that her program (set up by lawyers without ANY medical input) was modeled after the British program. So I asked him about it.

He was quite pleased with it so I started asking more questions. I was told that it took up to three days AFTER your appointment time to see a doctor because the program was used as a form of entertainment by people on welfare. They came in to see who else was there and what they had. The doctors were paid by the number of appointments so they scheduled appointments every five minutes. Most, who were only there for entertainment, were in and out in the five minutes but if you were really sick it took longer. The doctors tried to hurry examinations, so you may or may not get treated correctly. It was illegal to go to the emergency room during doctor hours unless it was truly an emergency (i.e., broken bones, serious bleeding, etc.).

Hospitals were given a lump sum a year to take care of everything regardless of what problems patients might have. Therefore beds and services were cut about 50%. Equipment such as EKGs were no longer bought and hospitals had to share them. It took up to two years to get into a hospital for treatment.

I asked about emergencies. He said that he paid about $150 a month as a retainer so he could see the doctor immediately. But since he was out of order on appointments, any medical care costs came from him. The government paid nothing. So he effectively paid $1800 a year just to see a doctor in an emergency and paid 100A% of the treatement costs - in a place supposedly cost free for health care.

And you people want this system here?

A true conservative
Phyllis Schafly nails it right on the head as usual.

I remember watching her many years ago on the old Phil Donahue show.
Donahue waited until the closing minutes of the show, (when she had absolutely no chance for rebuttal) to make some really outrageous claims.
It was one of the last times I watched Donahue!

Keep speaking up for the conservatives, Ms Schafly!

Hillary Care
A lot of Dems speak highly of the Health Care Program Hillary generated. But have any of you stopped to ask why it wasn't passed with a Democrat Congress and a Democrat (her husband) President?

The main reason was that there were two clauses that counterdicted each other. If you obeyed one, you broke the other. Further, there was a clause that said that if you broke ANY of it, everything you owned could be confiscated by the government to pay for the enforcement of the act.

When this was pointed out to Bill, he agreed that he knew about it. He also told Congress that he would veto any bill that did not contain that. His argument was that this was needed to insure that if anyone tried to cause the government trouble by protesting or politicially fighting against anything the "government" (read liberals) wanted, they could use this to silence the person by confiscating everything he owned.

Even the Democrat Congressmen voted against this idea. And now some stupid people who know nothing of the program at all wants Congress to pass it?

RDK
"It sure would be a good thing, if there were some national party that believed in less and limited Federal government."

There is one. It is called the Libertarian Party. But thanks to rules made by the GOP and Democrats and people who mindlessly chant "I don't want to waste my vote" and the media who ignore it, it never gets anywhere. If more began to support it, you'd get that as it would either gain power or the GOP or DP would co-opt its programs (just as the DP did with the Socialist platforms in the 1930s). But until the LP can get more than .4% of the vote (only .7% in Barr's home state). It will be ignored. It is catch-22. The system is fixed so only a candidate from the ruling party can win (there is only one major party in the US--the establishment party which has two wings known as the GOP and DP) and they set the rules so this always remains the case. They starve all other parties of funds, shut them out of the debate, make ballot access difficult and the media goes along with this by only covering the Establishment Party.

The US going to a PR system would break this stranglehold, but don't look for that happening either. It would take a number of amendments to the US Constitution or the creation of an entire new one and since the Congress and the State Houses control those changes and they are controlled by the Establishment Party, don't look for this to happen--EVER.

Basically you get the choice of awful and bloody awful and have to live with that.

BUSH, 9/11 & THE HUDSON RIVER MIRACLE
I find it highly significant that President Bush's moving, splendid, gracious Farewell Speech summing up his eight eventful years in office, with its focus on the war against terror and national security, was delivered just hours after the miraculous crash of Flight 1549-when an heroic commercial pilot who served in the military safely landed the damaged plane in the frigid cold of the Hudson River saving himself, his crew and a 155 passengers. I find it significant and relevant to the President and his stewardship for the following reasons:

1.One of the lucky passengers John S. Howell of Charlotte, North Carolina was brother to a firefighter who died on 9/11; and 2. the plane once evacuated drifted down river from Midtown Manhattan and came to rest by the USS Intrepid before it recommenced its journey south to Battery Park where amazingly it stopped by Ground Zero as if moved to that spot by God.

With a 5 trillion dollar tab added to the national debt, an economic crisis not seen since Hoover, bailouts to Wall Street, the auto companies and who knows who else, unemployment levels not seen since Carter, Obama could hardly do worse. In fact the economy will improve under Obama--typical business cycle--inspite of what he does. He will get the credit anyway (presidents actually have little control over the economy)and be given four more years in 2012. You might even be faced with a President Biden in 2016 (a replay of 1988). Bush is the new Carter...the new Hoover. Democrats will be running against him for years just like they did against Hoover and the GOP did against Carter.

ROWDY BOOTS

We should remember when FDR
set about socializing Am., the US had no real debt,
carried no deficits,
and almost the only tax in the US was the federal income tax, c. 4%--
states did not have their own income taxes or sales taxes,
"luxury" and "sin" taxes,
high local real estate taxes,
and fees for almost everything imaginable: dog and cat licenses, vehicle registrasion and drivers' licensing, parking (or meters), bridge and tunnel tolls, yadda.

Workers did not have Soc. Sec.,
workmen's comp and disability,
Medicare,
pension,
union dues,
PAC contributions,
and all the other deductions that come out of paychecks today.

For every dollar the Big O spends, it will be just like another payroll deduction against everyone who earns a salary in Am.

Such gov't activity will not provide for a healthy ec. or a fast recovery, esp. because the laws that caused the credit disaster: Freddie/Fannie/and the CRAs are all in force, and Dems. are already threatening financials if they don't *pump* money into the ec. The problem with just handing out loans to bad credit risks and crooks as the CRAs mandate is such actions will always bring about the current result--the reason BANK is in bankruptcy.

Perhaps it's time
for us conservatives to show people like will what being active is all about. Stock up on ammo! Lock an Load!

Eor
"Before you shout Hooray over the dems. health bill, you should really check on how it works..."

But it works quite well in both Taiwan and Sweden (ranked at #2 and #1 for national health services). The draw back is the cost as neither bring in enough money through their fees to cover the costs meaning that taxes are needed to make up the difference. Do I support a US NHS? No. Because the US can't even issue passports in a timely manner let alone run something like a NHS--seen a VA hospital recently? But to be fair both Taiwan and Sweden are much smaller and in the case of Taiwan much easier to implement. In the mid-1990s when Taiwan went to 100% coverage, most people in Taiwan were already covered by some form of national health insurance. It was not all that difficult a move to cover the rest. In the US most are not covered by national health insurance and thus it would be more difficult to implement.

To say it has failed everywhere it has been tried is simply false. And you may note few in Canada support going to a US-like system.

I'm looking forward
to a Carter economy. Thin about it if you have no debt and no need to incur debt interest rates paid for savings were great. Now young people, who voted for this, may experience some pain with student loans, or 14% interest on new mortgages, or a declining labor force -- but elections have consequences.

I believe and Deja Vu
Deja vu again?! Do believe! King Davids son often said that their was nothing new under the sun? I have to agree with Phillis here, you liberals put a kool aid spin on everything,to get your messiah in (the) office that reached some new lows! All the money, down right lying, deception on many fronts and I ask-can it possibly get worse? Over my many years of life I can (w/disbelief) yes it can! I once wondered why and how people would fall for "the man of perdition" and after this last bout i wonder no more! U libs will find that no one can keep all the promises that was paid for by special interest, but one will be kept for sure, you can figure that one out for yourselves!

Schlalfy is just another GOP lapdog ...
Schlafly, you are one big-time major FRAUD!!!

You and your phony Eagle Forum love to gripe about Illegal Immigration, North American Union, etc., BUT(!!) when the time came for you to endorse a GOP candidate, you picked Sam Brownback (he was for amnesty before he was against it). Why didn't you choose someone like Ron Paul or Duncan Hunter???

And you were soooo proud of the planks in the GOP Platform about Illegal Immigration. What a joke. Did you think McCain would abide by that crap you wrote?

Pack it in, Schlafly, more and more people are wising up to your hypocritical BS.

The difference
In 1993 the House had been in Democratic hands since 1955 and except for a brief period during the Reagan administration so had the Senate.

The GOP held the House from 1995 until 2007 and the Senate as well except for a brief period when Jeffords jumped ship to swing the 50-50 Senate into Democratic hands during Bush 43's first term.

The GOP Congress was just as out of touch and abused its power no less than did the Democratic ones did from, 1955 onward. Don't expect the GOP to pick up 16 seats in 2010 (the number needed to turn the GOP minority of 202 to a slim majority of 217). The GOP will need to gain 10 seats in 2010. And that hasn't been done since the Reagan landslide in 1980 and in a mid-term election? Not since 1958.

Other trends aren't all that good either. Since the FDR landslide in 1932, the GOP have controlled the House for only 16 years--1947-1949; 1953-1955; 1994-2007. More today consider themselves Democratic than they do Republican. Thanks to the often xenophobic tone of the debate over immigration reform, the GOP share of the Hispanic vote for president went from 44% in 2004 to 33% in 2008. In the 2006 elections for Congress it was 30% compared to 39% in 2002 and 40% in 2004.

While The GOP won big in the House in 1994, it lost seats in 1996 and again in 1998 (first time the party of a sitting president had not lost seats in a generation).

Don't expect a repeat of 1994. You can hope, because that is about all the GOP has left is hope. Welcome to the Wilderness.

You ask for tolerance but if it doesn't go your way, you want to disregard the will of the people to satisfy your immoral acts of perversion. You have no room to talk about someone else until you get your own act together. "

Not all of the gays were "committing acts of violence and terror". Don't smear everyone by painting with a broad brush.

As for "immoral acts of perversion", are you just as concerned about EVERY "immoral act" listed in the Old Testament? Also, the purpose of government is not to enforce a moral code, but rather to protect individual liberty.

What party is that?
"...less and limited government and enforcing a level playing field for international trade."

It sure would be a good thing, if there were some national party that believed in less and limited Federal government.

Obama's cross to bear is the Left
We can only hope the Republicans take back the Senate in 2010. Remember...it wasn't until the Reps took back Congress in 1994 that the Clinton administration:

-passed welfare reform.
-balanced the budget.
-passed nafta/gatt.

Divided govt is an absolute MUST. Obama's current threat doesn't come from the Reps, it comes from the Leftist radicals in congress who think they've got carte blanche to push through every ideologically extreme program on their agenda.

Phyllis said...
'If Obama and the liberals controlling Congress repeat the Democrats' mistake of 1993, it may be, as Yogi Berra famously said, deja vu all over again.'

And if the new found majority of Republicans repeat the mistake of 1994-2008 then it will truly be deja vu all over again.

A new Republican majority must put an ax to the Federal tree and cut it down to size quickly. They will have to strike fast so that people will see a profound change in Federal policy and taxation so that they will support the Republican conservatives at the next election.

Mrs. Paddy, you need to hook up with a musician/singer and put your parodies on the Internet. The take-off on Camelot is priceless!

In this age of Obama-worship we really need talents like yours to bring the Kool-Aid Obama acolytes back to earth. Maybe you could send it to Rush because he has an arrangement with an individual who does many of the parodies featured on his show.

krystalbird and surfcity
Thanks so much for the kind words.

Sent the parodies to a publisher (they requested my manuscript before the election) and never heard another word. I think it was a communist plot to suppress my work! LOL

I may self-publish sometime since I have had no luck elsewhere. In the meantime, please stop by the blog and leave a comment.

thanks for making my day brighter!

Mrs. Paddy ~ neat talent you have!
Those are some very good parodies. Put 'em in a book?

To the streets
Will, I did not say that taking to the streets is wrong. I pointed out the differences of liberal versus conservative approaches to change. Will, you say:

"You may disagree with the gay agenda... but all will have to admit that the past 30 years have been very, very successful in terms of court decisions and growing public approval."

Well, courts are not "taking to the streets," they are the place that ideological wars are waged. Regarding public approval, the "taking to the streets" in San Francisco for gay pride repulses most Americans. Only regular folks who know individual gay people that live as normally as possible, who refrain from "taking to the streets," and who don't flaunt their sexual choices and behavior are winning hearts and minds.

You say,
"In fact, gays take their cue from the original american colonists. American colonists took to the streets to destroy many crates of tea belonging to the British East India Company and then dumped it into the Boston Harbor."

A harbor is not a street. It was an act of rebellion, based on the ideas that great minds were expressing in pamphlets. In the war for the hearts and minds of people, leaders act and lead others, based on great ideas espoused by the likes of Montesque, Locke, Rosseau, and Adam Smith.

You therefore assert:
"Conservative organizers can learn a great deal from both activist american colonists and modern gay activists."

Indeed, here we agree. Conservative organizers can learn what to do by studying and emulating the great thinkers who were American Colonists and learned men. Conservative organizers can learn from modern gay activists what not to do... parade in the streets, seek change by judicial fiat, and glorify behavior that none of the American Colonists would have approved of.

Mrs. Paddy

Dittos to your post.

Not optimistic
Don't think we'll see another 1994-like tsunami. Yep, pessimistic.

The entire country has swung so far left, that it was willing to elect an inexperienced, dyed-in-the-wool Marxist-leaning leftist, who, with the help of the media, turned the election into a how-much-do-you-hate-Bush referendum. Even now, they can't help themselves and keep reminding us how low Bush's approval ratings are. They're giddy in their kicking-'em-when-they're-down smugness. While Bush certainly hasn't been perfect, he doesn't deserve this.

For those who think Obama will govern from the center, they're dreaming. Why in the world would he? He's got the mandate. He's got Congress. He can do whatever he wants. The country is eager for undeserved handouts, freebies and feel-good rhetoric.

Dobson said years ago that the country was on a slippery slope. I think the country consciously and purposely chose to dramatically increase the angle of the slide on November 4th. January 20th is simply the party celebrating our slip-sliding away.

Homosexual Special Tax

A Homosexual tax would help defray the costs the rest of us have to pay because of their 'Chosen Lifestyle'.

Common sexual practices among gay men lead to numerous STDs and physical injuries, some of which are virtually unknown in the heterosexual population. Lesbians are also at higher risk for STDs. In addition to diseases that may be transmitted during lesbian sex, a study at an Australian STD clinic found that lesbians were three to four times more likely than heterosexual women to have sex with men who were high-risk for HIV.

It is well established that there are high rates of psychiatric illnesses, including depression, drug abuse, and suicide attempts, among gays and lesbians. This is true even in the Netherlands, where gay, lesbian and bisexual (GLB) relationships are far more socially acceptable than in the U.S. Depression and drug abuse are strongly associated with risky sexual practices that lead to serious medical problems.

The only epidemiological study to date on the life span of gay men concluded that gay and bisexual men lose up to 20 years of life expectancy.

Steven Born
is only a year off. I fear that this will turn out to be another _1977_.

Back then another clueless leftie took the oath, joining a Democratic Congress euphoric over losing in Vietnam and evicting Nixon. The resulting orgy of score-settling, tax-raising, pork distribution, and retreat gave us stagflation (remember that?), the "misery index" (remember _that_?), a gutted intelligence establishment (already in a mess after the Church Committee hearings), shrinking and demoralized armed forces, a systematically vilified and overregulated oil industry in shambles, a radicalized Iran, the Mariel boatlift, a new and utterly useless Department of Education. . . .

On the positive side, Reagan followed Carter. On the negative, we had to go that far down the drain before a majority of voters grew sick of Democratic mischief.

If the right wing ever takes to
the streets, it won't be local churchs they riot in front of. It will be State Houses and the capitol, and it probably won't be riots. The total law enforcement establishment of Virginia, Maryland and DC, states and federal, couldn't deal with one sniper. He never would have been caught if not for an alert acquaintance. Look what a handful of fanatics did in India. They chose martyrdom, but didn't have to. They could have just melted into the crowds, and it is suspected some of them did. Will, we are not talking trivia here. Riots exist on the sufferance of the main body of responsible citizens. This patience is wearing thin. About 95 were killed in the last LA riots, mostly by shopkeepers shooting looters. It was not the cops who defended property. I am afraid the next riot could be very serious.

Gays.
Perhaps Americans should realize that all their obsession with homosexuality just makes them look stupid in the eyes of the rest of the Western world.

Phyllis Schlafly all over again.
The same garbage from this reactionary author, time and again. Get over it Phyliis, your side lost. Now go and ask your gay son whether he opposes same-sex marriage.

Why is "taking to the streets" wrong?
This is direct action activism.

You may disagree with the gay agenda... but all will have to admit that the past 30 years have been very, very successful in terms of court decisions and growing public approval.

In fact, gays take their cue from the original american colonists. American colonists took to the streets to destroy many crates of tea belonging to the British East India Company and then dumped it into the Boston Harbor.

1993 All Over Again
How true - except this time we have a President that has staff choices that break the law, OH! I am sorry I did not pay my taxes it slipped my mind, another is not allowed into Canada - seems they think he is an undesirable character, legal assistant that is an advisor to a Panamanian that the US has indicted for the murder of an American soldier - and the media glosses over it as if it were nothing. Seems as though the media and a bunch of folks are so blinded with the fact we have elected a black man - himself of dubious background, a real media creation can do anything or say anything without penalty to the office.

Remember conservatives after 2 years of Obama’s failed expensive attempts (and they will fail) to correct the economic situation, the public will grow tired of slogans and rhetoric along with 2 more years of a do nothing congress that spends money they do not have on harebrained non proven socialistic projects. There will be either a public uprising or a partial change in both the congress and senate - you know mid term elections.

You know 1995 all over again let’s hope, the conservatives do not let guys McCain run again-he was a sure loser and I voted for him - because I could not allow myself to vote for Obama the Socialist.

Long live president BarackHussein Obama!
He will save us. He will take care of us. He is the one! He will take care of all my problems! He is our new hero. I don't have to worry anymore. Long live Marxism.

Well, Will
you have clearly identified how liberals versus conservatives approach "change." Liberals "take to the streets" as you say. Scream, protest, riot, threaten. I saw it and lived it in the 60's. Conservatives appeal to ideas, which is something thinking people will rally around.
I'm sure that the author, as well as many other thinking folks, will not "take a cue from the gay activists."
Lastly, those who "take to the streets" are usually easily manipulated by a few "leaders" with their own agendas. Any reputable study on group behavior will attest to the fact that people will do things in groups that they never would as individuals. Just observe the next "celebration" after a city or university wins a championship, and you'll see amazing similarities to the gay activists who took to the streets.

Phyllis writes,
"Faced with 24/7 Obamamania on the media, the 60 million Americans who did not vote for Barack Obama are wondering where we go from here."

Phyllis, when Proposition 8 passed in California by 52%, the 48% who voted against it were wondering "where do the hundreds of thousands of Americans who didn't vote for Prop 8 go from here?"

Many of us took to the streets, Phyllis. We got politically active! We turned our defeat into grassroots activism. We did not sit around week after week churning out dry columns that almost nobody reads.

Take a cue from the activist gays, Phyllis. Do something about your political frustrations. Get your ancient butt up from the damned computer keyboard writing next week's column (that, again, almost nobody will read) and GET MOTIVATED! Put your money where your mouth is. SHOW me, don't just type and pontificate.

Interesting comparison between Bill and Barack. Bill was all out him and did whatever it took to make people love him. Veer right? No problem. Cut out liberalism? Done.

Barack on the other hand is much more savvy (he took out the Clintons) and will not make it so obvious as to what he is up to. He will at times sound very conservative, but the key will be if those words are followed with action. At this point I don't know what his core values are, but we'll find out soon enough.

Abdication
Did you notice that when the democrats took over congress in the midterm elections--they have done not one thing since but stall sabotage and villify everything the republicans, and President Bush tried to do. It's not about our country anymore and us. It is about politics and power and the money they are stuffing in their pockets and the pockets of their buddies. If Shumer, Dodd, Rangel, Murtha, Pelosi and Reid had to answer for their funny money problems at home they would get prosecuted bigtime. Mass. keeps sending Kennedy and Kerry back to D.C. and they don't pay taxes. Really amazing what you can get away with if you are a sleezy democrat. Dishonest!!

You don't get it...
You don't get it...
This is not 1993
This is 1976
Bush has screwed up worse than Nixon, and now we have to find our way back

You really do not understand how much Bush soured MIDDLE CLASS conservatives like myself on the party

My party is being punished, and it deserves it

Dead on!

A new CWA, but written out here, on the net, by true conservatives, tersely and boldly! Then we offer it up for Reps. and Sens. to sign. Modest, but powerful, such a movement might reverse the "neo", of big government conservatives, to "Pro Tem", conservatism, that deals with contemporaneous contingencies from the stance of its core values!:
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness!

Deja Vu All Over Again
Ms. Schlafly,

Sadly, you are correct - it is deja vu all over again. Unfortunately, the GOP has no one to blame but itself as it behaved like Democrats during the last two election cycles, and President Bush did not help. When the GOP decides to return to its core principles as set forth by two of my political heroes, Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan, we will have righted the ship.

For more on that very subject, please visit my blog: http://sanfordhorn.blogtownhall.com.

Mrs. Schlafly spot on
God help us all...the liberal media has driven this train off the cliff. This is the worst year of misinformed/uninformed voter I've ever seen in my life, and now we're stuck. Hold on to your wallets.

It's time for another Contract
for America. If our weak-kneed Republican reps are too timid to put one together, we need to do it ourselves and call for their signatures. We need to tell our representatives what we want from our government and insist that they represent us. The Contract worked beautifully the first time. Let's do it again. A no-brainer.

Before you shout Hooray over the dems. health bill, you should really check on how it works in England and Canada. Medical appts. and procedures are postponed time and again until people just die. That includes people with cancer and other serious conditions, plus the elderly and infirm. I read of a lady in England who waited 2 years for gall bladder surgery and one in Canada who after waiting 4 months for surgery for aggressive cancer finally came to the U.S and paid for it herself. NOT GOOD!

re: Hmmm....
Ms. Schlafly quote: "Obama's push for imposing an additional trillion dollars in debt will benefit special interests at the expense of working Americans"

If I remember correctly, Ms. Schlafly supported the government bailout of the "domestic" auto companies, which of course was billions of dollars for the "benefit [of] special interests at the expense of working Americans". So apparently, as long as Ms. Schlafly's favored special interests are served, it's ok. That's no different in concept than Obama and his colleagues, it's just a different shopping list.

Schlafly
Oh, please stop. You are breaking my heart.

If there was ever a time when the Democrats
were dumb it was when they did not support
the Hillary health bill.

People have finally gotten smart, and it will
happen. But Hillary will always be my hero
because of her early stand.
