The Democratic Socialists of America have set their sights on Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat.

U.S. Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) will head to Michigan on July 18 and 19 to back Abdul El-Sayed to beat out competitor Democrat U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens (MI-11).

The trio will hold rallies in Detroit, Lansing, and Grand Rapids next weekend. A campaign flyer posted to social media says:

Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and other special guests are joining me on our "The People vs. The Powerful" Tour in DETROIT, LANSING, and GRAND RAPIDS.

Ballots are out, and Election Day is just weeks away. Michigan, you deserve a senator beholden to the people – not corporations, oligarchs, or the establishment.

Let's rally. Let's vote. Let's win this.”

El-Sayed is running on the far-left platform of “Medicare for All,” that the U.S. shouldn’t enforce immigration laws, and that the property taxes of senior citizens should be “frozen” once they pay off their homes.

El-Sayed has attacked his competitor, Stevens, because she’s taken money from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). The third competitor, state senator Mallory McMorrow, dropped out of the race last weekend.

The winner of the Democrat Party primary on Aug. 4 will face off against U.S. Republican Rep. Mike Rogers (MI-8) on Nov. 3 to fill the seat vacated by Gary Peters (D-MI).

The Washington Democrat establishment favors Stevens, who is also supported by over 17 unions. In a recent debate, Stevens slammed El-Sayed because he hasn’t released his tax returns. She claimed that she’s the only candidate left in the race who’s not a millionaire.

El-Sayed is mimicking New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani by claiming that Michigan will pay for universal healthcare and other socialist policies by taxing billionaires — not millionaires, since he is one.

He wants "cradle-to-grave" healthcare for all.
