I don't think the former celeb-Mayor is allowed to run for office again, but a buddy of mine from Rhode Island swears he could still win election in a landslide. A lot of folks still remember him for reviatalizing Providence (if you're a fan of the Family Guy, you will recognize Buddy Cianci Jr. High).
Of course, there was the other side, too ...
Cianci was first elected as a Republican in 1974 but was forced to resign 10 years later when he pleaded no contest to assaulting a man he believed was having an affair with his estranged wife. He went on to become a successful radio talk show host and was reelected in 1990 as an independent, serving as mayor until his sentencing.
