Flat Tax Envy

They're looking at using D.C. as a testing ground for the flat tax.

It's been talked about for years. Wednesday, though, the idea of having a flat rate federal income tax takes a new turn at a hearing scheduled on Capitol Hill.

A Senate panel overseeing D.C. matters will look at an idea of imposing the flat tax on District residents, as part of an experiment. That would mean no more deducting things like mortgage interest and contributions to charities.

Eleanor Holmes Norton is, of course, unhappy with this, but D.C. would be lucky to take a turn as a lab rat on this one.

H/t Andy.
