Do iPods For Disabled Kids' Parents Really Help Them?

iPods were given out to handicapped students' parents as an incentive to get them to fill out an online survey. Who paid for the iPods? The U.S. taxpayer. The cost would've topped $150,000, until school administrators were pressured to cancel the program because of bad PR.

According to Bay News 9 — my local station growing up — "the money from the federal government program [that was used to purchase the iPods] cannot be used for salaries or bonuses, but must go towards other expenditures."

According to the administrators of the program, the best way to serve developmentally disabled students is to give their parents iPods rather than hiring more teachers, or rewarding good teachers with higher salaries.
