Yesterday the DNC released an ad full of Romney's contradictory statements on nearly every issue. Now, the campaign is doing damage control by trying to clarify his positions on issues ranging from gun control to abortion.
The former Massachusetts governor hastily arranged for supporters to hold conference calls with reporters to combat a new Democratic ad that highlights his changed positions on abortion, immigration, guns and other issues.
And Romney also took fire from a Republican rival, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Gingrich, fresh from an important endorsement in New Hampshire, told a South Carolina radio audience that "it's wrong to go around and adopt radically different positions based on your need of any one election."
I'm not convinced Romney clarifying what his positions are now will encourage people to forget about what his positions have been in the past. On that note, it is a bit hypocritical for Newt Gingrich to accuse Romney of taking "radically different positions" based on what is politcally convenient at the time. Afterall, Gingrich did support the a healthcare mandate and he sat on a bench for a film advertisement with Nancy Pelosi in 2008 to call on Congress to address climate change. The ad was funded by Al Gore's Alliance for Climate Protection.
