The Romney campaign is confident ahead of Tuesday night’s Iowa Caucuses, pulling hundreds of crowds to local events in Iowa just one day before the 2012 GOP primary season officially kicks off.
“We feel good, we’ve got a lot of momentum,” Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul tells Townhall. “You can really just feel the enthusiasm for governor Romney.”
After being behind in Iowa for months, Romney just pulled ahead of the GOP candidate field over the weekend, beating Ron Paul by two points.
“We’ll leave Iowa in a better position then we came,” Saul said, adding that it is tough to know who will show up to caucus, taking the campaign one state at a time with an overall marathon, rather than sprint approach.
“We have a 50 state campaign, we’re ready, we have an organization in all of the states,” Saul said. “We’ve built an organization to go and get the amount of delegates we need.”
Speaking of a 50 state approach, Romney is only one of two candidates to get on the primary ballot in Virginia. The other is Ron Paul. Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum, Jon Huntsman and Newt Gingrich are suing the Virginia Board of Elections to get on the ballot although their campaigns missed the filing deadline, arguing the Virginia process is too strict and complicated. Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli briefly floated the idea of emergency legislation to get the suing candidates on the ballot, but has decided election rules cannot be changed on a whim.
“Rules are rules, we worked hard to get on the ballot,” Saul said.
