Video of the Day: Granny Fends Off Jewel Thieves With Purse

A display of true courage from a seasoned citizen in Northampton, England:

The New York Post points out that the "handbag heroine" singlehandedly warded off a criminal gang comprised of six young men, four of whom were apprehended because of her efforts:

"I was standing talking with a woman when I heard a commotion, and I looked across and saw six young men on scooters," she said. "At first, I thought one of them was being set upon by three others. I was not going to stand by and watch somebody take a beating or worse, so I tried to intervene."

She added: "What concerned me was that too many people just stood around watching as if they were in shock, and nobody was doing anything. When I got closer to them, I realized it was a robbery, and then I was even more angry that they felt they could get away with what they were doing in broad daylight."

Apparently Genovese Syndrome doesn't affect British septuagenarians.  I think the best part of this story is imagining how the foiled robbers must feel today as they sit in prison cells.  They had obviously done some (admittedly poor) planning for the heist, but it seems they failed to develop a contingency plan for being harassed by a feisty, purse-wielding grandmother.  Well done, ma'am.
