Father of Flight 93 Hero Reflects on September 11

Todd Beamer, who famously shouted “let’s roll” right before attempting to retake control of hijacked Flight 93, will forever be remembered as an American hero.

On September 11, 2001, Beamer and 39 other heroic passengers stormed the cockpit and averted a terrorist attack widely believed to have been headed for Washington, DC. Beamer, who left behind two small children and his pregnant wife, was one of the countless Americans who gave his life to save others.

And now, after ten years, officials have released the surviving audio tapes recorded moments before the plane tragically crashed down in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Yesterday, to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11, Todd’s father David appeared on Fox News to speak with Megyn Kelly about his son’s heroism as well as the events of that fateful day.

“They had the opportunity to fight back,” he said. “They did, there was a counterattack, there was a victory…the intent of the enemy was not to crash in a meadow outside Shanksville, PA.”

He also took a few moments during his tribute to those on board to emphasize his respect and deep appreciation for those who serve in the United States military.

“We pray for our military everyday…we miss Todd terribly. But we’re so proud of what so many Americans continue to do to preserve our republic, our way of life, our freedoms and our liberties from those who would take it away.”

This poignant video is worth watching. It reminds us of those brave men and women killed on Flight 93 and their families – and why they will never be forgotten.
