Math You Can REALLY Use

On Hugh Hewitt's radio show yesterday, James Lileks made a point that bears repeating:  The new Cash for Clunkers legislation costs about $1 billion -- and that's for doing relatively little (e.g., you'll get a government handout if you buy a new SUV that gets only 2 mpg more than your old SUV).  The bill was passed with the President's encouragement.

Yet the President's proposed 2010 budget cuts $1.2 billion from missile defense -- in an era when Iran is busy getting the bomb and North Korea is intent on firing ballistic missiles at Hawaii.

Tells you a lot about the President's priorities, and not much that's good.
