McCain/Rudy '08? Not Likely ...

With all the love Rudy Giuliani has been giving John McCain lately, some people are speculating McCain might select him as his running mate.

I can't imagine how that would be a smart move.  Should he win the nomination, McCain will need to balance the ticket by bringing in someone with solid conservative credentials.   (He might also want someone a tad younger, who comes form the south).  South Carolina Governor Sanford would probably be a popular pick.

Considering McCain's age, this would mean that, unlike George W. Bush, McCain might leave us with a de facto successor.  The added benefit would be that this successor would likely be someone who is more conservative than he is.
