Gulf Oil Spill Solved?

Preliminary reports out of the Gulf region claim that BP has managed to plug the leaking well with infusions of cement, mud, and drilling fluid. The infusion was enough to block oil and gas coming out of the hole, and Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen expressed confidence that the leak would eventually be stopped.

Meanwhile, most news agencies continue to focus on the politics. Here's a breaking news update from Politico just a few moments ago:
Elizabeth Birnbaum, the director of the Minerals Management Service agency that oversees drilling operations, has been fired, the AP reports.
Here's a headline from this hour on CNN:
"Lloyd's puts dollar value on BP spill loss."
Boomberg:
BP Oil Spill Probes Find Deficiencies, Disagreements
Kudos to the Washington Post, who at least managed to include news about the probable solution to the oil leak in its story:
"BP says effort to plug well 'proceeding as planned,' but success still uncertain."
Here at Townhall, we'll put things in the correct perspective: this is an incredible development, and if it does solve the problem for good, it will represent a remarkable triumph of the both the oil industry and American democracy.
