Betting It All on a Bad Bill

Clear majorities of Independents and Republicans oppose the pork bill that's slithered from the halls of Congress, according to a new Zogby poll.

Well, it's accountability time.  The bill passed with only three Republican votes.  So if the bill fails to stimulate the economy, we know whom to hold accountable -- no if's, and's or but's.

And spare me the silliness the President regularly dispenses about the bill "creating or saving" four million jobs.  No one can ever calculate how many jobs would have been lost "but for" a particular piece of legislation.  Why not just say that the bill will have "saved" 25 million jobs?  There's the same level of accountability.

No, the Democrats have gotten their way, and pushed through the biggest single exercise in wasteful government spending known to Americans up until this time.  The watch now begins for the stimulus to the economy that they've promised will result.

So far, it seems the markets hate both Tim Geithner's plan for the banks and the Democrat stimulus package -- as of this writing, the Dow is down 400 points or so.  Good luck to all of us.
