Petraeus' Future in Politics?
Three presidential candidates questioned Gen. David Petraeus this week. Who came out looking the best? ... McCain? ... Obama? ... Hillary?
Actually, for the second consecutive time, Petraeus was probably the "candidate" who came out of the hearings looking the best.
... Which leads me to speculate that he may well have a political future ahead of him. Certainly, whether it's Jackson, Grant, Eisenhower, Powell or Clark, the idea of a military leader running for president is nothing new.
Just this week, Petraeus endured 16 hours of questioning without saying anything damning -- or painting himself in a corner by giving any premature or overly-specific answers to "trap" questions.
If that's not preparation for running for higher office, I'm not sure what is.
Clearly, the continued success and popularity of the surge would be important for such a scenario to occur. But stranger things have happened ...
