Bush: “I probably won’t even vote for McCain.”

Bush's new memoir has sparked a tidal wave of attention on to the former President, mostly favorable, as Guy mentioned below. Financial Times reporter Alex Barker recalls one interesting tidbit he says came from two separate sources during the time of the Bush presidency, which he has been reluctant to divulge until now. According to Barker, Bush, Gordon Brown and other British dignitaries in the Oval Office brought up the subject of John McCain's presidential run came up. This is what Bush said, according to the sources:

I probably won’t even vote for the guy...I had to endorse him. But I’d have endorsed Obama if they’d asked me.

Endorsed Obama? If true, this speaks to the complexity of our former President, and perhaps his belief that Obama is a moderate -- not the far-left liberal that many in the establishment have pegged him with. Or, it could simply be rivalry. Barker mentions the ongoing animosity between Bush and McCain, stemming from the 2000 presidential race.
