Be Thou My Vision

Today is the National Day of Prayer.

Jack Yoest has pictures from the White House event marking the day, which Charmaine Yoest attended.

Kevin McCullough has video from the East Room, including Bush speaking.

Some background on the tradition:

The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America when the Continental Congress issued a proclamation setting aside a day of prayer in 1775. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.

And, here's a press release for Red America, if I've ever seen one:

Denver, CO- NEXTEL CUP Driver Kenny Wallace is scheduled to drive the National Day of Prayer car #78 sponsored by Furniture Row for the NASCAR NEXTEL CUP race at Talladega Superspeedway...

In commemoration of the day, which falls on Thursday, May 4th, the #78 Furniture Row Chevy Monte Carlo CUP car will feature a new red, white and blue paint scheme, created by Sam Bass Design, showcasing the National Day of Prayer logo for Talladega on April 30.

Heck yeah. We pray, we race, and we recognize the benefits of aggressively marketing ourselves to others who like racing and praying, by way of the hood of a speeding Chevy. We are Red America and we are not ashamed.

Here's the car.

Now, Kenny will have to thank the "boys back in the shop and, um, prayer." Probably more appropriate than thanking the average Coke product or razor.

But, all kidding aside, if you want to find a National Day of Prayer event in your area, you can find one here.

I've always enjoyed the events I've been to. And, it might indeed take a race car to remind me to "be still" and know that He is God a little more often.
