My guess is that this reporter resented Romney's insinuation that Romney has completey washed his hands of DC "insiders" and lobbyists (and the subtle insinuation that McCain's manager is a lobbyist).
No doubt, Romney has plenty of "insiders" advising him. But technically speaking, the person who "runs" the campaign is the campaign manager and the candidate.
The reporter looked to be trying to pick a fight ...
