Obama is considering a move to shift the cost of service-related injuries to vets, something Craig Roberts, media relations manager for the American Legion, called a "desperate search for money at any cost." The current system charges third party insurers for routine health expenses, while service-related injuries are billed through the Department of Veterans Affairs. A letter signed by eleven leading veterans organizations told the President: "There is simply no logical explanation for billing a veteran’s personal insurance for care that the VA has a responsibility to provide." White House spokesman Nick Shapiro has not addressed their concerns.
