Single Tear: Gibbs to Resign Press Secretary Post

All good things must come to an end.  Bad things, too:

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs is leaving his position to work as an outside adviser for President Barack Obama's re-election campaign, an administration official said on Wednesday.

Gibbs is to depart in early February. A successor is to be announced within the next two weeks, the official said.

With Gibbs on his way out, Jim Geragthy snarks, "then who will fail to answer our questions?"  Despite the rhetorical nature of Jim's question, two top candidates have emerged: Current deputy spokesman Bill Burton and former Time Magazine Washington Bureau Chief Jay Carney, who currently serves in Vice President Biden's communications shop.

How fitting would be it be for an erstwhile mainstream media reporter to officially become the Obama administration's public mouthpiece?
