Newt's YouTube Challenge

Got a camera and a computer? If so, Newt Gingrich is challenging you to take part in his, The Winning the Future, Goose that Laid the Golden Egg, YouTube Contest.

Here's the premise: By taxing us and discouraging Free Enterprise, liberals are killing the Goose that Laid the Golden Egg.

Here's the challenge: Create a two-minute YouTube video that easily explains why Free Enterprise is best for America.  Simple enough.

I've got to give Newt credit for using technology -- not just to get his message out -- but to solicit input from all of us.   One of the reasons we encourage comments on this blog is that you never know where the next great idea will come from.  By giving up a little control, you often get a better product.  That's one of the most amazing things about the internet.  Newt gets that.

Like Newt, I believe technology has the potential to make us more free.

Here's one reason: Twenty-five years ago, most people worked for one big company their whole lives.  In this arrangement, it was logical for many people to look to "big government" to take care of them.  After all, if you relied on your big company, why wouldn't you rely on big government?

But today, more people make their living from eBay than from the steel industry. How do you tell a person who goes online to buy movie tickets, invest in the stock market, and have groceries delivered, that he can't have a say in picking his own health insurance? It's a hard sell.  Simply put, technology has allowed more of us to get involved, make our own decisions, research information for ourselves, and communicate with others.  All of these things encourage more freedom.

So kudos to Newt for using technology to spread the message of Freedom.
