The Hate-America Happy Hour

I went to a Code Pink/Iraq Veterans Against the War karaoke night in D.C. last week. Now, don't get me wrong, I met a couple people I didn't mind having beers with. But I went to hear the overall tone. After all, we always hear that they love the country, but hate the war, loathe the president, love the troops.

It didn't come across that way while they were reveling and tipping some back. This was the first break in the music:

Emcee: We’re here tonight to recognize that the government is moving us in the wrong direction. And it’s not just now. It’s a whole series of what we call wrong direction.

Audience Member: 200 years!

Emcee: How many years?

Audience: 200!

Emcee: 200 years of so much hypocrisy, so much not understanding what we’re doing, not only to ourselves, but to the rest of the world.

It gets more fun after that as the night goes on. I was not, I swear on a stack of Bibles, cherry-picking. I was there for hours, and these were the only breaks in the karaokeing I saw. And, people who act like this, and are so proud of it, don't deserve any cover for it.
