If logic mattered, this would be good for McCain.  Or, at least, not bad for McCain.  After all, he and Stevens were senate foes.  Stevens wanted a bridge to nowhere, while McCain was a pork-buster.

But logic doesn't matter.  The voters are probably more likely to associate Stevens with the GOP, and thus, with McCain (BTW, did anyone notice that the recent WaPost profile of Gary Condit almost always listed him as a "conservative" and not a "Democrat?") ... 

... Not that this is a knockout punch, but unless I'm mistaken, it will probably be an ironic net loss for McCain -- unless the McCain people jump on the story now.

I hope I'm wrong.
