Obama Proposes Significant Expansion Of Offshore Drilling

Some thought he would open up a portion of the offshore drilling areas desired by United States oil companies, but no one thought he would open this much. Instead of just opening sections of the southeastern coast, or proposing modest expansions to exploration in Alaska, he's gone and proposed drilling in the entirety of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland, except for a small section of water outside Washington D.C. — no doubt so he can take trip to the beach unencumbered by any potential environmental damage. That would cramp his style just a little too much.

That's 167 million acres in total across the eastern seaboard, according to the New York Times.

Add that to 130 acres in Alaska, and you've got yourself some serious oil production. Drill, baby, drill!

UPDATE: Parts of Florida are also included in the areas Obama wants to drill along the eastern seaboard. Drudge points out that this is a conflict with what he expressed during his campaign. I don't care what he promised during his campaign. Drill, baby, drill!
